USS Slater DE766

FEATURED
Details

An official Path Through History Site! The USS Slater, docked on the Albany waterfront, is the only World War II-era destroyer escort still afloat and the only one in existence with its original battle armament. Launched in 1944, the Slater saw service in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans during World War II. The WWII historic ship is the last floating survivor of 563 sister ships in the US. The fully restored vessel now serves as a museum April through November and illustrates conditions upon a destroyer escort during WWII. Guided tours of this floating museum cover three levels and include the galley, mess, crew quarters, officers country, private Captain's quarters, chart room, and pilot house.
