Explore this Gilded Age mansion on the Hudson River in Hyde Park, which was the lavish country home of Frederick and Louise Vanderbilt from 1896–1938. The approximately 45,000-square-foot mansion consists of 54 rooms and six floors.

No expense was spared in the design and decoration of the mansion, which features exotic wood paneling, imported marble, lush velvets, French tapestries, and antique building components salvaged from the great houses of Europe.

The property has perfectly symmetrical, Italian-inspired formal gardens and a "Millionaire's View" of the Hudson River. Explore extensive grounds, hiking trails and see spectacular views of the Hudson River. Park and mansion tour hours vary by season. The grounds are open daily, except for New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

The Vanderbilt Mansion is one of several must-see historical sites in Hyde Park. The Vanderbilts' neighbors along the Hudson River were the Roosevelts, and you can visit the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library, the Home of FDR National Historic Site and the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site. In fact, FDR played a key role in the preservation of the Vanderbilt Estate when he advocated for its transfer to the National Parks Service during his second term in the White House. A little further north along the river is the Mills Mansion at Staatsburgh State Historic Site. Of course, no visit to Hyde Park would be complete without a meal and a tour at the Culinary Institute of America.
