Waterford Flight of Locks

An official Path Through History Site! Built in 1907, this set of 5 locks provides a total lift of about 170 feet in just over one mile, the highest lift in the shortest span in the world, greater than the lift of the entire Panama Canal. These five locks are needed to navigate around the Cohoes Falls. The American Society of Civil Engineers has named the flight of locks as a significant historic civil engineering landmark.
