Alice Austen House

An official Path Through History Site! The Alice Austen House, also called Clear Comfort, was built in 1690 as a one-room Dutch farmhouse. One of America`s earliest and most prolific female photographers, Alice lived there until 1945, when financial problems forced her to move. Today, Clear Comfort operates as a museum, featuring exhibits of Austen`s work and contemporary photography as well as period rooms that have been recreated based on photographs.
