An official Path Through History Site! This Greek Revival townhouse was the mid-19th century home of noted abolitionists Stephen and Harriet Myers, Freedom Seekers sought refuge here, and Albany's Vigilance Committee held its meeting here. Enslaved in Rensselaer County until 18 years of age, Stephen Myers was regarded among NYS abolitionists as managing the "...best run (UGRR) station in all of New York." This award winning historic site is listed on The National Register of Historic Places, on the NYS Underground Railroad Freedom Trail, and on the National Park Service Network to Freedom. Reclaiming the voices written out of the standard canon of Underground Railroad history, The Myers Residence is a tribute to those historic voices which provide a new interpretation of this very old story, and which help us recognize the relevance of this history in our lives today.
