A former railroad bridge built in 1888, the Walkway spans 1.26 miles and stretches 212 feet above the majestic Hudson River. It's the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world. Enjoy a magnificent birds' eye view of the Hudson, Catskill Mountains and adjacent landscape. It's ideal for walkers, joggers, cyclists and rollerbladers. No skateboards or motorized vehicles are allowed. Parking is available at 61 Parker Avenue in Poughkeepsie, just steps away from the Walkway. From the Poughkeepsie train station, it's a 15-minute walk to the stairs at Washington Street and a five-minute walk to Upper Landing Park on the waterfront, where you can ride the glass elevator up to the deck. The elevator is closed January to April. Call the Elevator Hotline at (845) 834-3641 to check if the elevator is open. This is one of the participating locations on the Destination Dutchess Zen Finder Outdoor Experience Trail, a free digital passport featuring some of the best hidden-gem trails, fresh-air activities and captivating views in a curated itinerary of outdoor highlights.
