Just a half-hour from Lake Placid is the Wild Center and Wild Walk, offering enchanting experiences, from treetop trails with whimsical features like a human-sized bird nest to interactive exhibits like Forest Music and Patrick Dougherty’s Stickwork. Through February 22 the center glows with Wild Lights, creating an illuminated winter wonderland.

Ellicottville (Chautauqua-Allegheny)
