Hudson, NY — Hudson Hall presents Surface, Structure, String: Hudson Valley Textile Art Now (May 8–July 12, 2026), a group exhibition bringing together twenty-three artists working across fiber-based media including weaving, quilting, embroidery, and dimensional textile practices. Curated by artist Richard Saja, the exhibition highlights the growing presence of textile art in the Hudson Valley, with works ranging from intricately stitched wall pieces to large-scale installations.

Textile traditions run deep in the Hudson Valley, from handmade quilts and woven cloth to the region’s long history of textile manufacturing. Today, a vibrant community of Hudson Valley artists are building on that legacy through contemporary studio practice, using thread, fabric, and soft materials to explore landscape, labor, memory, and history. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will encounter hand-dyed fabrics, embroidered works, and fiber installations that reveal the remarkable diversity of contemporary textile work across the region.

“Surface, Structure, String looks at textiles not merely as surfaces, but as systems composed of tension, repetition, accumulation, and gesture—how string becomes line, how surface becomes story, and how material processes can carry memory and geography,” says curator Richard Saja. “Together, the works create a language uniquely capable of bridging the intimate and the architectural, the personal and the regional.”
