Hanford Mills Museum Ice Harvest FestivalEast Meredith, NY – Hanford Mills Museum in the Catskills’ East Meredith will hold the 31st annual Ice Harvest Festival on Saturday, February 1, 2020. The popular winter event celebrates an activity that was essential before mechanical refrigeration. Using historic tools and techniques, visitors can cut and harvest ice from the Mill pond and transfer it to the ice house using bobsleds. Each year, seven to eight tons of ice are harvested.

NYS Parks, Recreation, Historic Preservation 9th Annual Event Encourages Families and Friends to Spend Jan. 1 Holiday Enjoying Nature at State Parks, Historic Sites, Wildlife Areas and Public Lands

New Yorkers can greet 2020 with a choice of 85 guided hikes at state parks, historic sites, wildlife areas, trails and public lands sponsored by the state Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation and the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

Now in its ninth year, the annual First Day Hikes program includes a variety of events, from seal watches along an Atlantic Ocean bay and a bird count in the Capital Region, to hikes to fire towers in the Adirondacks/Catskills, along parts of the historic New York City drinking water system in the Hudson Valley, waterfalls in the Finger Lakes region and historic forts along the Great Lakes.

Snowmobile AppAdirondacks, USA - Snowmobilers in the Adirondacks will now have access to an interactive trail map on their phone to better plan their outdoor riding adventures in one of the largest trail networks in New York state. 

The new, free Adirondacks, USA snowmobile app contains information about the trails in Essex, Franklin and Hamilton counties, and nearby gas stations, stores, restaurants and lodging properties that welcome sledders. Additional trails in neighboring counties will eventually be added to provide a more comprehensive map.
