Cuomo today announced new events and activities for the 2017 Great New York State Fair, including a new home for the popular New York State Police exhibit, new major events such as Family Fishing Day and Timber Sports Day, and new Midway rides and entertainment such as the Broadway Skyliner chairlift ride. The long list of enhancements builds on Governor Cuomo's $120 million plan to revitalize the nation's oldest state fair and delivers on the promise to create an attractive tourism destination that helps to grow the economy of the region.

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Philadelphia Orchestra, one of the preeminent orchestras in the world, returns to its beloved summer home at Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, August 2 at 8 P.M. to kick off three weeks of exhilarating, diverse performances. The season, August 2 – 19, encompasses wide-ranging classical and contemporary repertoire, world renowned musicians and conductors, family-oriented multi-media offerings and an opera evening. New Free Fishing Days Include Weekend Preceding Presidents Day, National Hunting and Fishing Day and Veterans Day;

DEC Call Center Hours Extended to Provide Assistance to Hunters and Trappers on Evenings and Weekends

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced new free sport fishing days in New York on Veterans Day, the weekend preceding Presidents Day, and National Hunting and Fishing Day, the fourth Saturday in September. During these designated free fishing days, New York residents and non-residents are permitted to fish for free without a fishing license. Governor Cuomo also announced that sporting licenses and Deer Management Permits for the 2017-18 season will be available for purchase beginning Tuesday, August 1.

NYS Parks, Recreation, Historic Preservation Rensselaer, N.Y. – On August 12 from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm, discover how colonists in the Hudson River Valley prepared ice cream on hot summer days, long before electricity made it easy to keep things cold.  Watch as interpreters in period costume use colonial era recipes, ice cream molds, and a reproduction 18th century ice cream maker called a sabotiere to prepare this summer treat the old fashioned way.  A scavenger hunt will highlight items in the museum related to Dutch colonial dairy production, the sugar trade, and more.  Visitors of all ages will also learn how to make their own ice cream at home, using basic ingredients and simple techniques.

Held from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm every Tuesday from July 18 to August 29, the drop-in series will investigate creative concepts in Modern art, exploring how Contemporary artists express their ideas. Children will examine works on exhibition in the Museum's galleries, learn the concepts, then apply them to their own projects in the Art Studio.

Finger Lakes, N.Y. -- The sixth annual Finger Lakes Cheese Festival is slated for Saturday July 22rd, 2017 from 10:00am-5:00pm at Sunset View Creamery in Odessa, NY, just east of Watkins Glen and south of Ithaca. Sunset View is a founding member of the Finger Lakes Cheese Alliance, which puts on this annual family-focused event. The Planning Committee is excited to announce many new additions to this year's festival.

The event features a full farm market featuring creameries of the Finger Lakes Cheese Alliance providing tastings along with many local food and farm vendors.

Skaneteles Antique and Classic Boat ShowSkaneateles, N.Y. – For more than 15 years, John Hawbecker, of Salem, S.C., has made the 850-mile drive to Skaneateles with his 1959 Chris-Craft ski boat, Infatuation, in tow to exhibit at the Antique and Classic Boat Show. This year will be no different.

“My wife and I love this show—it has the best entertainment and the friendliest people,” said Hawbecker, who attends several shows a year across the country.

Part of the Governor’s NY Parks 2020 Initiative to Expand Access to Outdoor Recreation

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the grand opening of new $4.5 million visitor facilities at Hallock State Park Preserve in Suffolk County. The new facilities provide public access to the 225-acre park on the North Fork of Long Island for the first time since the park was acquired by the state in 2003. As part of the Governor’s NY Parks 2020 initiative, this project is helping to revitalize the state park system and expand access to outdoor recreation.

Ticonderoga Area Car Show 1Ticonderoga, NY – July 10, 2017 – The 25th Annual Ticonderoga Area Car Show will be held Sunday, August 6, 2017 in Ticonderoga’s Bicentennial Park. From 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. There will be a number of awards given out including Fabulous 50, Top 25, and an array of special awards including Best of Show Car, Best of Show Truck, Best of Show Motorcycle, Best of Show Display, 1 Super Wheels Prize Package, Chambers Choice, Fans Choice, Most Radical Engine, Best Color Scheme, Favorite Antique, and Best Work In Progress. Awards/plaques have been custom designed for the 2017 Ticonderoga Area Car Show.
