Saratoga Springs, N.Y. (January 26) — The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College announces the return of its popular Family Saturdays, with two workshops each month from February through May. The first Family Saturday will be on February 3 at 2 pm. For Family Saturday: Floating Sculptures, participants will view Steve Roden’s spatial score in the Tang atrium, talk about it, and create their own floating sculptures using tissue paper, cardstock, and string.

Astoria, New York, January 30, 2024 — This February, Museum of the Moving Image will open a major new exhibition devoted to net-art pioneer and sculptor Auriea Harvey, a groundbreaking Black woman artist who transcends boundaries across media; continues with the screening series Snubbed 2: The Performances, featuring 30 films with great performances that were not nominated for Academy Awards; and welcomes filmmakers, from the Oscar-winning production designer Patrizia von Brandenstein to emerging directors and others. 

Schweinfurth New ExhibitsAuburn, NY (Jan. 30, 2024) – “Both Ends of the Rainbow 2024” and “Three Lakes Sampler” opened Jan. 28 with nearly 1,300 separate artworks made by students and senior citizens adorning the white walls of the Schweinfurth Art Center. Installing that many artworks entailed a team of 20 Schweinfurth staff, volunteers, and Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES teachers more than two weeks and 4,420 staples to hang the pieces.

Saratoga Springs, NY – Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) announces its 2024 NEW YORK CITY BALLET (NYCB) season featuring four unique programs from July 9-13 as part of NYCB’s historic 75th anniversary and its 58th season in Saratoga. Called “the foremost creative ballet troupe in the world” by The New York Times, New York City Ballet will bring its roster of more than 90 dancers under the direction of Artistic Director Jonathan Stafford and Associate Artistic Director Wendy Whelan, accompanied by the New York City Ballet Orchestra, led by Music Director Andrew Litton.

Each year, the LIM closes the Museum to in-person visitation over the holidays and early winter while they install new exhibitions.  The LIM will feature a spectacular lineup of exhibitions that showcase the vibrant culture and artistic heritage of Long Island.

Rochester, N.Y. (January 29, 2024)—The George Eastman Museum begins the celebration of its 75th anniversary with a visual journey back to the 1960s. The museum’s newest exhibition, Crashing into the 60s: Film Posters from the Collection, opens Friday, February 2 in its Main Galleries and Potter Peristyle. This exhibition features film posters from the extensive George Eastman Museum collection. In addition, a film series connecting to and expanding upon many of the posters displayed in the exhibition will run in the Dryden Theatre through the exhibition’s run in September.

New York Before New YorkSpecial installation explores a rare map and what it reveals about the lives of settlers, Indigenous people, and enslaved Africans of New Amsterdam

New York, NY (January 30, 2024)—This March, the New-York Historical Society presents New York Before New York: The Castello Plan of New Amsterdam, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Dutch founding of a colony that would give rise to New York City. On view March 15 through July 14, 2024, the special installation is organized around the Castello Plan, a map depicting New Amsterdam at the peak of its settlement circa 1660, just before the English took control. Through documents and objects, the installation explores how settlers, Indigenous people, and enslaved Africans experienced the world illustrated in the Castello Plan.

Nashville, TN (January 29, 2024) – Figure skating icon SCOTT HAMILTON will commemorate the 40th Anniversary of his 1984 Olympic victory on February 16 with 40 YEARS OF GOING FOR GOLD, a celebratory ice show at Glide at Brooklyn Bridge Park, benefitting cancer research through his Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation and healthcare partner Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  This once-in-a-lifetime event will feature decorated figure skating stars including 1984 Olympic medalists Brian Orser and Jozef Sabovčík, plus 2022 Olympic Champion Nathan Chen and more, along with top fundraisers who earned an opportunity to join the show.
