Yonkers, NY (October 30, 2024) —This month at the Hudson River Museum, kick off Native American Heritage Month at Free First Fridays: Thunderbird American Indian Dancers on Friday, November 1, 5–8pm, with free admission and performances by one of the best-known and the oldest resident Native American dance companies in New York. Plus, experience the joy of working with clay with the Clay Art Center, and get creative in a bilingual sketching workshop. Cash bar.
On Saturday & Sunday, November 2 & 3, join us for a Día de Muertos celebration! We invite you to participate in our community altar, or ofrenda, all weekend by bringing photos of departed loved ones. Create your own Cempasúchils, or Mexican Marigolds, in an art workshop from 1-4pm to place on the altar or bring home. Note: We recommend bringing copies of the pictures instead of originals. You can also email photos to us and we will print them and place them on the altar.
Plus, celebrate the holiday season at the HRM’s Holiday Kick-Off, with a variety of festive programs from Friday–Sunday, November 29–December 1. Highlights include Stories from the People of the Longhouse with master storyteller Perry Ground and mesmerizing magic shows with Didi Maxx. Tour our Gilded Age historic home, which will be decked out for the holidays in Victorian splendor, create your own colorful patterns and clay pendants in art workshops and a holiday ornament in a science workshop, and enjoy planetarium shows for all ages, including a holiday edition of The Sky Tonight.

Join Alva Greenberg, curator of the exhibition, and HRM Assistant Curator Shilpi Chandra for an interactive tour of No Bodies: Clothing as Disruptor. Greenberg and Chandra will delve into how the altered and uninhabited clothing on view disrupts our automatic responses by challenging perceptions of materiality, cultural identity, relationships, political beliefs, and portraiture itself.

The Hudson River Museum is a preeminent cultural institution in Westchester County and the New York metropolitan area. The Museum is situated on the banks of the Hudson River in Yonkers, New York, with a mission to engage, inspire, and connect diverse communities through the power of the arts, sciences, and history.
The HRM offers engaging experiences for every age and interest, with an ever-evolving collection of American art and dynamic exhibitions that range from notable nineteenth-century paintings to contemporary art installations. The campus, which recently expanded to include a West Wing with exhibition galleries and sweeping views of the Hudson River, features Glenview, an 1877 house on the National Register of Historic Places; a state-of-the-art planetarium; an environmental teaching gallery; and an outdoor amphitheater. The Museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting these multidisciplinary offerings, which are complemented by an array of public programs that encourage creative expression, collaboration, and artistic and scientific discovery. The Museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums (AAM), an honor awarded to only 3% of museums nationwide.
