Glens Falls, N.Y. – The Hyde Collection has partnered with the Museum of American Bird Art at Mass Audubon (MABA) to present an exhibition that celebrates the Adirondack region and explores the birds and natural landscapes of the surrounding regions. Wings and Wilderness: Birds and Landscapes of the Northeast will be on view June 6 through October 11, 2026, and feature a range of traditional and contemporary artwork. Visitors will find photography, painting, and sculpture representing numerous species native to the Northeast, including recent acquisitions by MABA, on view for the first time.
“The Museum of American Bird Art is thrilled to have this opportunity to share highlights from our extraordinary collection with the Glens Falls community and the many visitors who come to the region each summer,” said Director, Museum of American Bird Art Jennifer S. Tafe, Ph.D. “This exhibition offers a rare chance to experience these artworks while we envision a new home for our collection, and we are especially excited to partner with an excellent museum like The Hyde Collection to tell important stories about wildlife and land conservation through art.”
Many artists throughout history have been drawn to the landscapes of the Northeast and the Adirondacks, including the painters of the Hudson River School, resulting in one of the very first American art movements. Inspired by the pristine scenery of the Hudson River Valley, Catskills, and Adirondacks, Hudson River School artists celebrated the Northeast as a powerful embodiment of American identity, spiritual renewal, and the sublime beauty of the natural world in contrast to expanding urban industry.
Visitors to the Museum this summer will find paintings by influential artists including Winslow Homer, Mary Walters, John Marin, Willard Metcalf, Indigenous artists Philip Young and Kananginak Pootoogook, and engravings by John Audubon, a silkscreen by Andy Warhol, and bird miniatures by A. Elmer Crowell. Among the exhibition loans is a work by Hudson River School painter Thomas Cole from the Albany Institute of History and Art, alongside a painting by Georgia O'Keeffe on loan from the Fenimore Art Museum.
A series of unique exhibition related programs are planned, including a number presented by The Hyde Collection in collaboration with the Southern Adirondack Audubon Society. Visitors near and far are invited to the Museum to experience the Adirondack region through the eyes of the artists who sought to capture its beauty.
Support for this exhibition is generously provided by the Hoopes Family Foundation, Charles R. Wood Foundation, India & Benjamin Adams, Leslie Fraser Gold & Irene Kamau, and Grasshopper Gardens.
