Slate Valley Museum logoGranville, NY –The Slate Valley Museum will welcome Granville’s Ladybug Lady and other community partners for a free day of crafts and activities centered on fairies and fairy gardens. The free Family Festival event will take place on Saturday, July 11 from 10am until 4pm.

The fairy festival is part of the museum’s 2026 calendar, which explores the theme, Carving Out Fun: Slate & Play in America. Immigrants moved to the Slate Valley area to work in the region’s slate industry, bringing with them beliefs and practices that they continued in America.

The day’s many hands-on creative activities will guide guests in learning about fairies and where they fit in the cultures of immigrants. Participants will learn that different cultures had specific roles and names for fairies, and that color played a part as well. Each participant will leave with their own unique creations, including fairy wands, painted garden stones, and natural fairy garden decorations.

Staff from the Pember Library will also provide readings of special fairy stories.

The program is free for everyone, and all ages are welcome to participate. Contact the museum at mail@slatevalleymuseum.org or 518-642-1417 with questions.

The Slate Valley Museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 12-4pm and Saturday from 10am-4pm from now through October 17. The museum is located at 17 Water Street in Granville, NY.
