Farmingdale, NY - The American Airpower Museum’s “Legends of Airpower Warbirds” will perform formation and aerobatic flight demonstrations at this year’s FourLeaf Air Show, celebrating America’s 250th birthday and paying tribute to all those who have served our nation past and present. Museum Warbirds flying in the air show are a Douglas C-47B Skytrain, North American P-51D Mustang, Curtiss P-40M Warhawk “Flying Tiger,” Grumman TBM-3E “Avenger” Torpedo Bomber, North American AT-6D Texans and the popular red WACO Biplane.
Here’s a snapshot of Warbird Week at AAM. Museum will be open from July 1st through the 6th. On July 1st, 2nd and 3rd, AAM’s Texan and WACO flight experiences will be available and on July 3rd, C-47 flights will be offered. Of special interest to vintage aviation fans, on July 3rd and 4th from 10 am to 5 pm, guests can watch our Warbirds perform practice flights for their part in the upcoming FourLeaf Air Show.
AAM encourages visitors to stop by the museum before or after the FourLeaf Air Show, to see our Warbirds up close and meet the pilots and crews. On FourLeaf Air Show days, July 5th and 6th, museum visitors can watch our Warbirds leave Hangar 3 for Jones Beach and return after each flight performance, which take place between 10 am and 3 pm.
Museum attendees will see Navy Blue Angels take off each day from AAM’s flight line, zoom south to Jones Beach and return to land back at Republic Airport. Like the Blue Angels, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds jet squadron will be visible for take offs and landings, right from Republic Airport on AAM’s ramp. You’ll also view the gigantic C-17 Globmaster III, performing flyovers at the show and over Republic, plus aerobatic performers like the great Aarron Deliu. Of special interest to Top Gun movie enthusiasts, Dream BIG Entertainment’s "Top Gun Maverick F/A-18 Experience" is a mobile aviation exhibit so visitors can sit in an actual cockpit of a Navy F/A-18. This interactive unit travels to airshows across the nation and is always a popular attraction for young and old alike. This full-size Navy F/A-18 fuselage and cockpit will be on AAM’s ramp July 3rd to 5th, so fans can wear flight jackets, helmets and have their photos taken in the cockpit!
Aside from all the action at Republic, AAM’s Hangar 3 is also home to an amazing collection of static Cold War jet fighters, such as the Grumman EA-6B Prowler, Republic RF-84 Thunderflash, Republic F-105 Thunderchief, and the Fairchild Republic A-10A “Warthog,” which recently saw action in the Persian Gulf!
The FourLeaf activities start Saturday July 4th, with 6pm to 10 pm fireworks at Jones Beach. The air show part is July 5th and 6th, from 10 am to 3 pm each day. Don’t forget you can also watch AAM’s Warbirds perform practice flybys over Republic Airport July 3rd and 4th. So, whether you’re going to Jones Beach or watching the air show from Republic Airport, keep in mind you can park FREE in AAM’s lot or along New Highway.
