Glens Falls, N.Y. - The Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council (LARAC) will pair the works of ceramic artist Dolores Thomson with her daughter Emily Thomson’s large-scale florals in Show VI: In the Wind, August 14th through September 16th. The opening reception takes place on Friday, August 14, 5-7pm; all are invited to meet these creative and accomplished artists and celebrate their work.

Natural and organic forms and the flow of nature are themes present in both artists’ works but their chosen mediums to interpret these inspirations provide a vastly different experience for viewers. The pairing of 3D work with 2D work makes for a compelling and exciting experience for visitors to Lapham Gallery. Dolores Thomson creates works in clay in a variety of forms, wheel thrown, sculpted and hand built, making pottery for everyday use, as well as sculptural and decorative vessels. Her gracefully symmetrical clay vessels finished in a variety of firing and glazing techniques, are immediately recognizable throughout the region. Dolores works and teaches out of her studio, Clay Concepts Pottery Studio & Gallery, located in the Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, NY. She frequently exhibits her work in shows, galleries and shops throughout our region.

Primarily working in oil paint, Emily Thomson paints large-scale florals that seek to capture the essence of abstraction within the larger form. Her flower portraits are filled with vivid colors and captivating details. The artist hopes to inspire viewers to take a closer look at the colors, patterns and shapes that make each flower a unique entity. Born and raised in Upstate NY, Emily now resides in Manassas, VA, where she is actively involved in the local art scene as both an exhibiting and teaching artist.
