Windsor, NY – A new agritourism destination taking shape in Broome County is inviting the community to take part in an early spring gathering that celebrates local farming, rural life, and the power of community connection. Farm in Broome, located in the Town of Sanford, is preparing to open more fully to visitors this summer and will offer a preview of its mission during a special Easter event in Windsor featuring its beloved Highland cows, Frick and Frack.
On Saturday, April 4 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, visitors are invited to stop by Cozy Brooke Cafe (56 NY-41, Windsor, NY) for “Easter Snacks with Frick & Frack.” Guests can enjoy Easter treats, meet the gentle Highland cows, take photos, and spend a relaxed spring morning celebrating the arrival of the season with members of the Farm in Broome community.
While playful and family friendly, the event also highlights a larger story unfolding in the hills of Broome County. Farm in Broome is being developed as an agritourism destination, where visitors can experience working farmland, learn about animals and food production, and reconnect with the landscapes that sustain rural communities.
Agritourism has become an increasingly important way for small farms to survive and thrive. By welcoming visitors onto the land for experiences, education, and seasonal events, farms are able to diversify their income while also helping the public better understand the work that goes into growing food, caring for animals, and stewarding the land.
Farm in Broome aims to be part of that movement.
Founded by Steven Marion, the farm grew out of a deeply personal turning point. After years producing large scale events in New York City, Marion stepped away from the pace of city life following the loss of his husband, artist Xiang Lan. He found himself drawn to the quiet hills of Broome County, where restoring land and caring for animals became a path toward healing and reconnection.
What began as a personal project soon grew into something more meaningful. Marion began imagining a place where visitors could reconnect with nature, learn about farming, and experience the quiet rhythms of rural life.
“This farm started as a place for me to breathe and rebuild,” said Marion. “But the more time I spent here, the more I realized how important it is for people to understand where their food comes from and to support the farmers and rural communities that make that possible.”
As Farm in Broome continues to develop, the property will offer animal encounters, farm tours, educational programs, walking trails, seasonal events, and small gatherings designed to bring visitors closer to agriculture and the land itself. The farm also plans to incorporate programs focused on rural education, environmental stewardship, and community connection.
Events like Easter Snacks with Frick & Frack serve as an early introduction to the farm’s mission, while also supporting local businesses and building connections within the region.
Frick and Frack, the farm’s charismatic Highland cows, have quickly become local favorites through social media and community events. Known for their gentle temperament and unmistakable shaggy coats, the pair have become unofficial ambassadors for the farm’s message that time outdoors, animals, and shared experiences can bring people together.
“Sometimes the most meaningful moments are the simplest ones,” Marion said. “Standing outside, meeting an animal, sharing a laugh with neighbors. These are the kinds of experiences that remind us why farms and rural communities matter.”
By partnering with Cozy Brooke Cafe, a beloved Windsor gathering spot, the event also celebrates the spirit of small town collaboration and the importance of supporting local businesses and farms alike.
