Three-Day Celebration Brings Together LGBTQIA+ Residents, Visitors, Allies, Families, and Friends for Winter Fun in the Adirondacks
Lake Placid, N.Y. — Tri-Lakes Pride is excited to announce that the third annual Adirondack Winter Pride will take place Friday, March 5 through Sunday, March 7, 2027, bringing three days of winter recreation, community, entertainment and LGBTQIA+ Pride to the Olympic Village of Lake Placid and the surrounding Adirondack region.
Tri-Lakes Pride will coordinate the 2027 celebration in strategic partnership with the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST), Whiteface Mountain, the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority), I LOVE NY, the Adirondack Diversity Initiative (ADI), and the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
These organizations are building on the momentum of Adirondack Winter Pride's first two years while working collaboratively to expand the event, welcome returning participants, introduce new visitors to the region, and establish Winter Pride as an annual part of the Adirondacks' winter season for people of all ages and abilities.
Tri-Lakes Pride and its partners also extend their sincere appreciation to the Adirondack North Country Gender Alliance for its leadership and work coordinating Adirondack Winter Pride in 2025 and 2026. That leadership helped establish the foundation upon which the event continues to grow, and the organizations involved are excited to build on that success for many winter sports seasons to come.
“Lake Placid hosted one of the first Winter Prides in New York, and I LOVE NY LGBTQ is happy to see the tradition not only continue, but expand across the state. The 2027 event provides another fabulous opportunity to showcase New York State as a destination that welcomes travelers exactly as they are. Winter tourism drives critical economic activity across the state and bringing LGBTQ winter sports enthusiasts and their friends together to enjoy premiere skiing, shopping and other activities helps generate revenue for the region and build community. I LOVE NY LGBTQ looks forward to a partnership that will help travelers find everything they love waiting for them in the glorious Adirondacks.” said Ross D. Levi, Vice President and Executive Director of Tourism for the New York State Division of Tourism at Empire State Development (ESD).
New York State's commitment to LGBTQIA+ winter tourism has continued to grow in recent years, with Pride ski and winter weekends bringing visitors to destinations, including Lake Placid, Gore Mountain, and Belleayre Mountain. Adirondack Winter Pride offers participants an opportunity not only to gather as a community, but also to experience the skiing, snowboarding, skating, Olympic attractions, dining, shopping and hospitality that make the Lake Placid region one of New York's signature winter destinations.
Whiteface Mountain will once again play an important role in the weekend's activities.
"We are thrilled to welcome Adirondack Winter Pride back for its third year and to once again host events at Whiteface Mountain," said Lauren Garfield, Marketing and Sales Manager at Whiteface Mountain. "One of the most exciting things about reaching year three is seeing this event become a tradition. I'm especially looking forward to welcoming back participants who joined us during the first two years, seeing familiar faces return for a third Winter Pride, and introducing even more people to Whiteface and everything this incredible region has to offer. We want everyone who comes here to feel welcome, enjoy the mountain and make Lake Placid and the Adirondacks a place they want to return to year after year."
The weekend will also provide participants with opportunities to experience Lake Placid's extraordinary Olympic legacy. The Olympic Authority maintains and operates the historic Lake Placid Legacy Sites, including the Olympic Center and its James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval, the Olympic Jumping Complex, Mt Van Hoevenberg, and Whiteface Mountain.
"Lake Placid's Olympic venues are extraordinary historic resources, and we continue to build on our remarkable legacy," said Jaime Collins, Communications Manager for the Olympic Authority. "Honoring our Olympic history means continuing to welcome all people into these spaces and giving new generations of visitor’s opportunities to experience them. Adirondack Winter Pride is a valuable way for us to introduce these iconic venues to a wonderfully vibrant and diverse cross section of travelers and winter sports enthusiasts. Seeing people come together here, experience these sites, and create their own memories is one of the ways Lake Placid's Olympic legacy continues to grow."
The 2027 weekend will include a mix of outdoor recreation, Olympic experiences, social gatherings, entertainment and opportunities to explore Lake Placid and the surrounding region. Additional programming, registration information, participating businesses, special offers and a complete schedule of events will be announced as planning continues.
Local businesses and organizations throughout the region are encouraged to become part of Adirondack Winter Pride. Participation can take many forms, including formal sponsorships, hosting or partnering on a special event, offering a Winter Pride discount or promotion, providing an activity for attendees, or simply helping create welcoming spaces throughout the weekend.
"We want Adirondack Winter Pride to feel like something the entire community is part of," said George Connelly, Coordinator of Tri-Lakes Pride. "The Adirondacks already brings together people from around the world because of our mountains, our Olympic history, our communities and our love of outdoor recreation. Winter Pride gives us an opportunity to intentionally say to LGBTQIA+ travelers: you belong here, too. We are incredibly grateful to the Adirondack North Country Gender Alliance for the work they did to establish and lead this event during its first two years, and we are excited to work alongside our regional and statewide partners to build upon that foundation."
Connelly added, "This is also about supporting our local economy during the winter season. We want people skiing at Whiteface, skating at the Olympic venues, visiting our attractions, eating in our restaurants, shopping in our stores, staying in our lodging properties and discovering everything our communities have to offer. Our hope is that someone who first discovers Lake Placid because of Winter Pride comes back again and again — in winter and throughout the year."
Organizations and businesses interested in sponsoring Adirondack Winter Pride, partnering on an event, providing a special weekend offer or discount, or otherwise becoming involved are encouraged to reach out during the planning process.
Individuals interested in volunteering for Adirondack Winter Pride 2027 are also invited to get involved.
