The historic site’s manager Pamela Malcolm, shared her insight into what makes Staatsburgh a unique and enriching experience for visitors, many of whom return throughout each season to experience its elegant yet bucolic elegance. “Staatsburgh is blessed with rich history, a gorgeous landscape along the Hudson River, and notable architecture and collections original to the Gilded Age estate. These assets fuel our passion to share with visitors the many ways to experience the site. Many people have visited Staatsburgh in recent years, due to the popularity of HBO’s TV series, The Gilded Age, which mentions Ruth and Ogden Mills several times, as they were prominent members of “The 400,” the list of elite families created by Ward McAllister for Mrs. Caroline (Lena) Astor as she reigned as New York society’s queen. We love to expand on the Millses’ role in that elite social group. But our staff are inspired to provide a welcoming, fun and rich interpretive experience to all visitors who love history, historic homes and collections, or a beautiful respite from the modern world. We love what we do and where we work!”
“Congratulations to Staatsburgh State Historic Site on its recognition in Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards for 2025,” said Kristen Dalton, President, Tripadvisor. “Ranking among the top percentage of businesses globally means you have made such a memorable impact on your visitors that many of them took time to go online and leave a glowing review about their experience. We hope this recognition continues to drive business to you in 2025 and beyond.”
