In celebration of the total solar eclipse on April 8, the farm will host a celestial fest recognizing the beauty of the upstate New York region and its long history of blending nature with multi-sensory attractions.
Potsdam, N.Y. (Feb. 22, 2024) - The Adirondack Fragrance & Flavor Farm (ADK Fragrance Farm) will host the Eclipse Fragrance Festival on April 5 to 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, culminating with the total eclipse viewing. Coinciding with the celestial celebration aimed at welcoming residents and visitors alike complete with local talent, vendors and activities, the fragrance experts will release a limited-edition eclipse collection featuring an invigorating blend of balsam, rose, and vanilla cultivated from the Adirondack region.
A total solar eclipse only occurs in the same place every 400 years when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the sun. Titled the “Great Northern American Eclipse” on April 8, the 124-mile-wide “path of totality” will arch across the United States, from Texas to Maine, crossing at a diagonal through the Adirondack region, positioning it as the best viewing destination. In the Adirondacks, the eclipse process will begin shortly after 2 p.m. ET and end at approximately 4:30 p.m. ET for about 2 ½ hours with an estimated four minutes of complete darkness.

The highlight of our series is a two-hour Guided Hike on the farm, personally curated by our founder, Sandy Maine, offering an immersive experience into the breathtaking natural landscape and rich cultural heritage of our area. This carefully crafted series promises to create unforgettable memories and foster a profound appreciation for the unparalleled allure of our region."
Visitors to the Adirondacks venture to the area to experience the natural and geographic beauty of the famous mountain and forest dome, believed to be one of the features that survived the Ice Age. The Adirondacks cover six million acres of land with unique flora and fauna, including over 50 mammal species ranging from small moles to massive moose. The anticipated arrival of the solar eclipse sets the stage for a rare occurrence, the first time the region will be directly in the path of totality.
The Potsdam region, located in the Adirondack foothills, will be transformed into the premier viewing destination for the celestial wonder, offering the best view and least light pollution in the entire U.S. Emphasizing world-class attractions and captivating events, the event will amplify visitation and spending in the area, driving economic growth in severely distressed communities.
The festival is supported by a Market New York grant from Empire State Development and I LOVE NY/New York State's Division of Tourism, awarded through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative.
