Lake George Battlefield Park AllianceLake George, NY – The Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance, in association with the Warren County Commission for the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution, will host a day of events on Friday, December 12 honoring Henry Knox’s Noble Train of Artillery — the legendary 1775 expedition that brought 60 tons of heavy artillery through Lake George to George Washington’s army in Boston—as part of a commemoration of the region’s key role in the beginnings of the American Revolution.

WHAT:

A daylong commemoration featuring historical reenactments, community gatherings, and appearances by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Rick Atkinson (The British Are Coming, The Fate of the Day).

WHY:

Henry Knox’s stay at Lake George in December 1775 was a crucial two-week period during which he planned and began implementing his epic journey to move 60 tons of artillery south and east—an achievement that forced the British to evacuate Boston and helped secure an early milestone in America’s drive for independence. Knox and his influence on the war that was to endure for nearly eight additional years are reviewed and honored throughout the day’s events.

About the Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance: The Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance is a not-for-profit organization of volunteers who have an abiding interest in the Lake George Region’s critical role in the French and Indian War and the American Revolution.
