Bristol Mountain logoCanandaigua, N.Y. (June 17, 2024) – Bristol Mountain is thrilled to announce the arrival of athletes from the Killington Mountain School (KMS) of Killington, Vermont, to train at its state-of-the-art water ramp facility this past week with a multi-day training camp. Athletes stayed at local hotels and spent time as tourists experiencing Canandaigua and the surrounding area during their down time. Completed in 2022 with support from Bristol Mountain Freestyle and the Greater Rochester Amateur Athletic Foundation, this facility is dedicated to advancing the skills of local and visiting freestyle skiers during the off-season.

The Bristol Mountain water ramp, one of only three such facilities in the nation—joining those in Lake Placid, NY, and Park City, Utah—offers freestyle skiers a safe environment to learn and perfect new jumps. Recognized as the safest method for athletes to practice, the water ramp requires at least 200 practice jumps for each new technique before attempting them on snow, a process which can extend up to 2-3 years due to the limited availability of such specialized facilities.

KMS athletes, who are accustomed to competing at Bristol Mountain during the winter months, now have the extraordinary opportunity to continue their training through the summer in Canandaigua. “The main reason we came here is that there are only about three of these in the nation, and having a new possibility out here was kind of a dream to us. So we always come to Bristol Mountain for winter competitions, so now this gives us a great opportunity to come to Canandaigua in the summer to jump, and we’ve really been enjoying it so far,” says Colin Campbell, Freestyle Coach at Killington Mountain School.

Bristol Mountain is proud to offer this cutting-edge facility to athletes from across the nation, underscoring its commitment to the development of winter sports and the nurturing of athletes’ potential year-round. GRAFF is a non-profit organization that helps athletes in the Rochester, NY area reach their greatest potential. Those interested in more information or to make a donation can visit graafusa.org
