Broome County Arts CouncilBinghamton, NY. – Broome County Arts Council (BCAC) is pleased to invite you to the September First Friday Art Walk on September 4th, 2026, from 6-9 pm, with some locations having varying hours (details below). Most exhibitions are free and open to the public.

Patrons can now receive a special $5 event parking rate for six hours (4pm-10pm) at the Water Street Parking Garage. For more information, visit our website.

This month’s First Friday participating open galleries and creative spaces include 11 locations with 1 POP-UP venue:

  • Trolley Tours: The Trolley Tour is running. Trolleys are free, and you can ride them from the Phelps Mansion at 6pm & 7pm for transportation to all exhibition spaces.
  • Pop-Up! HCS: CONTACT, A film Premiere & Q&A with Director Jonathan Walley @ 11803 Castle Gardens Rd.
  • The Night: 5-10PM — OPEN SKATE/RIDE. Amp carts wired hot. Plug in. Make noise. No rules. 5:30-6:30PM — In “THE CHAMBER” LISTENING SESSION w/ filmmaker Jon Walley himself. Feelin’ those Sonic vibes! 6:45-Till Out — FREE FOOD served in the Library, just in time for the premiere. BRING YOUR OWN CHAIRS! FUEL: FREE catered food by local Latin eatery // In- house Pandamonium drinks available for purchase all event 🐼// Cash preferred / Card. 7-8PM — DOC PREMIERE!! followed by Q+A. Raw cut.   • The Artisan Gallery & The Art Path Gallery: Remembering Ruby by Ruby H. Wang.  Thanks to the generosity of the Bowen family, Bertram Wang, and IBM, this special exhibition includes many paintings on public view for the first time ever, encompassing many periods of Ruby’s work from the early 1970’s to her more contemporary pieces. We are truly honored to present this rare and intimate collection of Ruby H. Wang’s watercolors. Ruby H. Wang (1932-2018) was a treasured member of our community as an artist, a teacher, a mentor, and a dear friend of the Bowen family. Ruby’s style incorporates traditional Chinese watercolor painting with French impressionism and traditional Chinese subject matter with American spatial sensibilities (6pm-9pm).
  • Artful Child Gallery: Yuri Forever by Fiona Smith I’ve been doing all different types of media in art since I can remember. Art is a big part of how I can express myself and who I am as a person. I love to try out different techniques to be able to achieve the best version of what my art can be! My favorite things to draw are characters from shows and games that I like. I create mixed media pieces that blend hand-drawn characters and animals from my own imagination. I am still figuring out my styles and favorite things to draw but I can’t wait to see where my journey with art takes me. My name is Fiona Smith, I am 14 and am in 10th grade at Maine Endwell. I have done art since I can remember. Art was always my favorite subjects and what I spend most of my free time doing. What I love most about art is that I get to express myself on paper when I couldn’t do it in other ways. I’m grateful that I get to share it with everyone else at this gallery (6pm-9pm).
  • Orazio Salati Studio & Gallery: Abstracted Models by Michael Sampson & Wilson Ceramics by Matthew Wilson. Michael Sampson’s paintings & monotypes begin with direct observation from the figure model. During each figure drawing session, he makes quick abstracted drawings that follow the contours & gestures of the model pose. These drawings serve as blueprints or maps that guide the composition of his abstract paintings & prints. In addition, Wilson Ceramics will be on display paired with Sampson’s pieces (6pm-9pm).
  • Atomic Toms: Atomic Jams. Listen to live music by local performers (5pm-9pm).
  • The Cooperative Gallery 213: Unfolding by Eileen Seeley Schlag & Joanne Thorne Arnold. Two seasoned painters, Joanne Thorne Arnold & Eileen Seeley Schlag, sharing the exploration of what is familiar in abstracted landscapes (6-9pm).
  • Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts: LORE by Na Chainkua Reindorf. 16 New works by Reindorf as an extension of her previous series, Mawu Nyonu (6pm-9pm).
  • ForsterArts: The Serene of Green by E.B. Schott. Through the works of E.B., harmony, melody and symphony of nature are depicted by “The Serene of Green.” Hearing the birds soar by, embedded in the mountains reflecting bright sunrays. Nature, the serene of green, is our healing, natural, nurturing mother earth which provides comfort in stillness, calmness and quietness. E.B.Schott is a visual, kinesthetic, universal, holistic learner who sees the world in pictures and numbers, expressing her subconscious essence. She is a hands-on painter, needing to taste, touch and feel her creations. She is compelled to continually paint outside of the traditions of conformity which helps E.B.Schott escape the pain of daily life and thus becoming a healing force for all (5-9pm).
  • The Roberson Museum: From The Vault: Eldred and Ippolito. Discover art from Binghamton University professors Charles Eldred and Angelo Ippolito in this exhibition of works from the Roberson Museum Collection. Born in Binghamton, New York, Charles Eldred received a B.A. in 1960 from Harper College, State University of New York at Binghamton. An important element of his work, both in sculpture and drawing, was the interweaving of seemingly incompatible elements. The detailed pen and ink drawings, meticulously rendered in combinations of abstract, architectural, and naturalistic forms, tell timeless stories of an epic quality. His sculptures feature brass or bronze objects, removed from their normal context and spun into a fantastic world of the artist’s invention. Angelo Ippolito was born in St. Arsenio, Italy. He studied at Ozenfan School of Fine Arts in New York, at the Brooklyn Museum Art School with John Ferren, and at the Meschini Institute in Rome, Italy. He was a teacher during most of his professional life, including Cooper Union in New York from 1956 to 1966; Michigan State University, 1966 to 1971; and from 1971 at the State University of New York at Binghamton, New York. Admission to the museum will be half-priced ($4) (12pm-9pm).
  • Phelps Mansion Museum: Philip Herin & Gathering Hearts of Light. Swing Dance Basics — First Friday September 4th Join us for a free swing dance event open to the public, part of our First Friday series. We’ll have both beginner-friendly lessons and open dancing. Come learn some new moves ahead of our Speakeasy Party on September 19th! Time: 6:00–9:00 PM Cost: Free. Instruction: Beginner lessons at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Open Dance: Starting at 8:00 PM. Instructor: Philip Herin, Southern Tier Swing Dance Collective. Come learn the basics in a relaxed, welcoming setting — no partner or experience necessary. Additionally- we will have Psychic readers on the second floor of the mansion. Readings are $30 for 15 minutes. (Cash only)  No reservations needed-signup when you arrive for a time-slot. Readings are offered from 6pm-8pm. Mansion open for viewing from 6pm-9pm. 6pm-9pm. FREE Admission.
  • The Lost Dog Cafe: Women of the Cigar Factories—Broome County Historical Society Photography (6pm-9pm).
