Cape Vincent Arts CouncilFeaturing New Book Release by Best-Selling Author Jessie Sima

Cape Vincent, N.Y. - The new book from New York Times bestselling author Jessie Sima will be released as part of a series of events taking place in Cape Vincent as it hosts the 1000 Islands Children’s Book Festival. On June 6 at 1 pm, Sima and other authors will be on hand to sign and discuss their books in an event open to the public. It will take place on Real Street in Cape Vincent in the backyard of The Little Book Store (183 W. Broadway St.), directly across from the Cape Vincent Community Library. Admission is free and all are welcome.

“The Cape Vincent Arts Council held a Children’s Book Festival in the past and we are very excited to bring back this special event,” said Mike Kinnie, CVAC member and an organizer of the festival. Other organizers include Amy Pond and Monica Leubner from the Cape Vincent Community Library, CC Camizzi, and Rebecca Kinnie

Sima’s latest book, The Greatest Bedtime Story Ever, tells the fantastical tale of how an elf facing a dangerous dragon was inspired to write The Greatest Bedtime Story Ever to save himself. Sima is also the bestselling author and illustrator of picture books including Not Quite Narwhal; Love, Z; Hardly Haunted; and many others.

Other authors who will be on hand to meet with book lovers and sign their books include N. West Moss, Len Senecal, Laura Lavoie, Cassidy Thomas, Linda Rowe, M&M Kinnie, and more. Authors’ books will be available for sale. “Pete the Cat” will be a special guest, courtesy of the Community Action Planning Council of Jefferson County.

In addition, finalists will be announced for the 1000 Islands Young Writers Competition. Finalists will receive prize money and be published in an anthology sponsored by The Little Book Store.

As part of the festival, on Friday, June 5, Sima and Moss will visit students at Bashaw Elementary School in Cape Vincent and Guardino Elementary School in Clayton to discuss their books and hold writers’ workshops.

The 1000 Islands Children’s Book Festival is sponsored by Friends of the Cape Vincent Community Library, the Cape Vincent Community Library, the Cape Vincent Arts Council, the Make a Difference Day Committee of Cape Vincent Correctional Facility, and The Little Book Store.
