Norwich, N.Y. – The Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) is excited to again be co-hosting “Community Art with Airigami” throughout both days of this year’s Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival. Everyone is invited to help create a collaborative mural depicting “The Haudenosaunee Flag,” a modern representation of the Hiawatha Wampum Belt. The Oneida of the Haudenosaunee were First Allies of the 13 U.S. colonies during the Revolutionary War (1776–1783). This large-scale art installation will be created entirely out of balloons.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be honoring ‘America’s First Allies’ during Colorscape through this dynamic community art installation in partnership with Airigami,” said Jessica Moquin, CCHS executive director. “We are grateful for Chenango250 support which has helped to make this creative and imaginative local history experience possible!”
First established in 1939, CCHS is the area’s premier heritage museum dedicated to celebrating local culture—its unique traditions and noteworthy stories. Programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
