Downtown Albany BIDAlbany, NY — Summer has officially arrived in downtown Albany, bringing with it a variety of free, family-friendly events to enjoy this season. The Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) has organized several activities throughout the next few months, including State Street Yoga, Downtown Albany BINGO, Tunesday, and Live Score Movie Nights. These events are open to the public at no cost and aim to promote exploration, tourism, community engagement, and interactive experiences in downtown Albany.

State Street Yoga

Every Saturday at 10:00 AM throughout June and July, the BID hosts a free, 60-minute, outdoor yoga class. Classes are suitable for all levels and will be held on the grassy lawn at scenic SUNY Plaza, located at 353 Broadway, just a few steps away from Downtown shops and eateries. Certified yoga instructors from Omni Fitness Center and Hot Yoga Spot will lead this class, which is suitable for beginner and advanced yogis.

To participate, guests can register in advance at downtownalbany.org/yoga or sign up on site, and should bring their own yoga mat, water, and sunscreen. If it rains, the class will move indoors to Omni Fitness Center at 54 State Street.

Downtown Albany BINGO

The City of Albany's Alive @ Five free concert series returned this year to the newly renovated Tricentennial Park on Thursdays and will continue through July 17. Local restaurants, bars, eateries, shops, and attractions are offering special deals, events, and promotions after the concerts. To encourage concertgoers to explore Downtown during the series, the BID has created a BINGO game featuring participating businesses on each square. Participants can earn one stamp for each purchase made, and if they get five stamps in a row, they can enter their board into a raffle for a chance to win a $50 Downtown Albany Gift Card. BINGO boards are available at participating businesses. For more details on the BINGO game, visit downtownalbany.org/bingo.

Tunesday

This weekly lunchtime concert series kicks off July 8 and runs through August 26 at Jim DiNapoli Park at the intersection of Pine Street and Broadway. Downtown workers are encouraged to grab their lunch and head to the park at noon for a medley of different performances by local and regional acts, including musicians from the Albany Symphony, jazz and rock artists, violinists, harmonicaists, and more. This is the perfect opportunity to take a break from the office and unwind to the tunes of talented and professional acts.

The Downtown Albany BID thanks Henry BellagnomeThe Albany Musician's Association, and ParkAlbany for their support for Tunesday. Learn more at downtownalbany.org/tunesday.

Live Score Movie Nights

Get ready for an interactive outdoor movie experience like no other! The BID has teamed up with Bee Side Cassettes to present these exciting events, taking place on the third Fridays of June, July, and August.

A lineup of acclaimed local musicians from various genres and backgrounds will perform live, reimagining the scores of classic adventure movies as they play on a big outdoor screen at Clinton Market Collective (11 Clinton Ave).

The first of three Live Score Movie Nights kicked off on June 20 with a showing of Disney's James and the Giant Peach (1996), featuring music by Apostrophebeats Orchestra. Next up on July 18 is the cult classic The Iron Giant (1999), with the live score performed by Blue Ranger & Guests. The series will conclude on August 15 with The NeverEnding Story (1984), featuring a live score performed by Improv Spaces & Guests. Guests will also get to experience live video art by projectionist Derick Noetzel.

Activities begin at 7:30 PM, with movies starting at dusk. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase to guests 21 years or older with a valid ID. Food offerings from Viva Empanadas will be available for purchase on July 18, and from Wizard Burger on August 15.

In addition to our specific events, the District hosts an impressive 140 events each month, ranging from trivia nights at local pubs to concerts at our world-class venues and everything in between. We encourage both locals and visitors to explore the core of our city, enjoy our shops and restaurants, and try something new this summer."
