Orange County Tourism - 2024 logoOrange County, N.Y. - There are many ways to view fall’s brilliant colors, but none compare with a cruise on the Hudson River. And Orange County, N.Y., is the perfect point to embark on the adventure.

Passengers on the Pride of the Hudson, operated by Hudson River Adventures in Newburgh, N.Y., travel the spectacular Hudson Valley scenery on two-hour, narrated cruises. The trip is a delightful centerpiece to a fantastic autumn day – or weekend – in Orange County, just an hour from New York City.

Peak leaf-peeping season is just days away, transforming Orange County into an autumnal paradise with family-friendly farms, spectacular mountains and charming downtowns. To reach the Pride of the Hudson, travel through downtown Newburgh, N.Y., known for its historical sites, growing waterfront district and eclectic eateries.

A cruise on the river is a can’t-miss opportunity to enjoy an endless stream of panoramic views. River sites include:

  • Washington’s Headquarters, where General George Washington spent time during the Revolutionary War.
  • Mount Beacon, the highest point in the Hudson Highlands, known for the signal fires that were lit there during the Revolutionary War.
  • Bannerman Island, known for its military warehouse built to resemble a Scottish castle.
  • World’s End, the deepest point of the Hudson River.
  • The United States Military Academy at West Point with its beautiful, historic buildings.
  • Constitution Island, where a chain crossing the river from West Point, was anchored in 1778 to block the British from sailing north.

Enjoy all that and more in the cool fall air on the Pride of the Hudson’s main sundeck, or, if you prefer to warm up, from inside the climate-controlled main salon with its large wrap-around windows.

The Hudson River is a one-of-a-kind waterway beloved for its scenery in all seasons, as well as its history and the communities along its shores. But fall brings out its true colors, which makes an October ride on the Pride of the Hudson an extra-special experience.
