This year’s weekend focuses on the traditional process of natural dyeing of fibers.
Visitors will find weaving, spinning, knitting, quilting, and other textile related activities.
Cooperstown, NY — Fiber Arts Weekend returns to The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown on Saturday and Sunday, August 24 & 25 from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Visitors will find a variety of exhibits, vendors, and hands-on activities featuring wool carding, spinning, weaving, quilting, knitting, “cranking” (sock machine demos), and other textile-related activities. This year’s weekend focuses on the traditional process of natural dyeing of fibers. Museum interpreters will demo a variety of textile techniques. Over 18 demonstrators and vendors will participate in this year’s event including Dark Sea Yarn with Lizz Murdock, Fenimore Quilt Club, Crows Calling Apothecary, Old Story Quilts, Ancient Threads Farm, Leatherstocking Spinners, Susquehanna Valley Quilters, Sunny Valley Farms, Butternut Valley Spinners, and other skilled craftspeople and vendors.
Items for sale during the event include hand-spun and dyed yarns, apothecary items, quilts and quilted items, woven rugs, placemats, and towels, sheep milk soap and lotions, drop spindles, upcycled sweater and wool items, and more. Todd’s General Store will have a variety of woven items available for sale that have been made by the museum’s textile interpreters.
At the museum’s Lippitt Farmstead, learn about life on the farm and delight in the animals in the Children’s Barnyard. In the Main Barn, check out the exhibition The Buzz about Pollinators and our historic tool collection. You can also take a ride on the Empire State Carousel, explore the Country Village, shop at Todd’s General Store, and visit the famous Cardiff Giant. Sit on our tavern green while you enjoy selections from The Crossroads Café.
The museum is open every day this summer from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Admission: Adults and Juniors (ages 13-64): $17.50; Seniors (65+): $12.50; Youth (7-12): $10.00; Children (6 and under): free. Museum members are always admitted free, as are active-duty and retired career military. Free admission for those receiving SNAP benefits—up to four people with the presentation of a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card.
