Earth Day Celebration and Hike the Highlands
Cornwall, NY – Celebrate Earth Day 2024 with the Hudson Highlands Nature Center on Saturday, April 20! This special day kicks off with “Hike the Highlands” at 9am, followed by the “Earth Day Celebration” from 11am-3pm. This exciting day has something for people of all ages and interests, and will take place at the Nature Center’s Outdoor Discovery Campus location: 120 Muser Drive in Cornwall, off Angola Road.
At Hike the Highlands, participants will be able to choose from three different hikes. The Hike & Play: Led by a Nature Educator, this family friendly hike is perfect for little ones! As you walk through the woods, you’ll make stops at some of the Young Naturalist Preschooler’s favorite Nature Play spots and enjoy fun activities.Field & Forest Ramble: A Nature Center Naturalist will lead an interpretive hike that focuses on what you’ll see on the trail that day. Get you better acquainted with the world around you, and learn what plants and animals are active in April in the Hudson Valley Hearty Hike: Join us for a guided hike on the McKeon Loop Trail. This 2.2 mile hike connects the Outdoor Discovery Campus to our neighbors at Black Rock Forest. This moderately strenuous hike will take you through a beautiful deciduous forest and includes two wonderful views of the Hudson River (Approx. 1.5 - 2 hours to complete) Check-in begins at 8:30am with all hikes going out at 9:00am. Pre-registration is required. Tickets are $15 per person ages 3 and up and include admission to the Earth Day Celebration! All of the money from this important fundraiser directly supports the HHNC’s Educational Programming & care of their Animal Ambassadors.
The Earth Day Celebration will immediately follow the Hike the Highlands at 11 am. Join in for lots of family fun with Nature Center Educators who will lead interactive Earth Day games & activities. Meet live animals, play in Grasshopper Grove, go on a hayride, and enjoy live music by ‘Soil & Soul.’ The day also features face painting, candlemaking, food trucks, the “Great Marble Race'' and a raffle with prizes from wonderful Hudson Valley businesses- including tickets to Legoland! Shop the Earth Day Makers Market with vendors selling hand-crafted and locally made jewelry, food, art and more!
