Riverhead, NY (April 3, 2024) – Hallockville Museum Farm in Riverhead and Farm Hands educational programs are collaborating to offer a special series of activity-based workshops for children called Spring Saturdays on the Farm. Four hands-on play and crafting sessions based on East End agricultural, natural and cultural history themes will be offered at Hallockville on Saturday mornings April 13, May 11, June 1 and June 22. Spring Saturdays on the Farm will be led by Jessica De Vera Wells, the head teacher at Farm Hands and a North Fork farming native.
The themes and schedule of the Spring Saturdays on the Farm will be as follows:
- Barn Architecture – Saturday, April 13 from 10 – 11:30 a.m.
- Native Trees – Saturday, May 11 from 10 – 11:30 a.m.
- Old Time Farm Equipment – Saturday, June 1 – 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Plants that Heal – Saturday, June 22 – 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“The Spring Saturdays on the Farm children’s programs will be held concurrent with similarly-themed guided walking tours for adults,” explained Heather Johnson, Hallockville Museum Farm executive director. “We encourage parents to enroll their child in a Spring Saturdays session and to enrich their own local knowledge by registering for the walking tour to be held at the same time.”
Spring Saturdays on the Farm enrollment is $30 per child, per session, and there is a $5 discount for siblings. Advance registration is required and may be completed online at: https://www.farmhandsnorthfork.com/springsaturdays. Hallockville Museum Farm is located at 6038 Sound Avenue in Riverhead.
Admission to the historic walking tours for adults is free for Hallockville members and $10 for the general public. Registration may be completed online at https://hallockville.org/walkingtours/.
