Wolfgang Tillmans - Still LifeHudson, NY (February 3, 2025) – Hudson Hall at the historic Hudson Opera House announces its spring event lineup: an eclectic mix of world-class photography, opera for the people, screenings of cult classics and thought-provoking documentary, dynamic discussions with acclaimed authors, and community programs celebrating joy, fostering connection, and inspiring creativity.

Anchoring the season is an exhibition of artwork by renowned photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, courtesy of Second Ward Foundation. One of the most influential photographers of his generation, Tillmans has multiple solo shows around the world this spring including the final exhibition before the closing of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France. On view March 29 - May 18, the exhibit at Hudson Hall offers area residents a rare opportunity to view Tillmans’ groundbreaking work.

As previously announced, Hudson-based director R.B. Schlather reunites with early music band Ruckus for six performances of G.F. Handel’s baroque blockbuster, Giulio Cesare (April 19 – May 2, 2025). Returning to Hudson Hall following the success of Rodelinda (2023), Schlather brings together rising young stars and some of the finest baroque interpreters today to share his passion for Handel in the intimacy of New York State’s oldest surviving theater.

Spring film offerings include the iconic 90’s classic Pump Up the Volume (1990) starring Christian Slater (February 28), presented in partnership with Wave Farm’s WGXC 90.7-FM as part of its 14th Anniversary celebrations. Plastic People (2024), a documentary exploring the crisis of microplastics, screens on March 14th with a panel discussion with Beyond Plastics and Columbia County Reduces Waste, whose “Bring Your Own” initiative aims to minimize the use of harmful single-use items in our community.

Hudson Hall welcomes distinguished writers Jonathan Lerner and his Pulitzer-nominated nephew Ben Lerner for Family Connections: Excavating Teen Angst (April 4), in partnership with Second Ward Foundation. A lively discussion on adolescence and storytelling, the event marks the debut of Lerner’s new novel, Performance Anxiety. Hudson Hall and The Maker Hotel’s Meet the Makers series continues with The Mixologists (March 19), a spirited exploration of craft cocktails featuring local mixologists moderated by William Li.

Community highlights include Camphill Hudson Players“The Happiness Experience” – the premiere of the their debut film, Happiness in the Spotlight: The Movie (May 30), screened with live performances and a post-film dance party, and The Art of Happiness, an exhibition featuring artwork by people of all abilities (May 23 – June 8, 2025); and the return of the community workshops with Sideways ArtShakespeare with Cindy KubikHudson Community Choir with Beautiful Racket, and Community Chess Club with instructor Theo Baker.
