YN Maple Sugar tour by Kerry KopfCornwall, NY - As winter winds down and the sap begins to flow, the Hudson Highlands Nature Center invites you to explore the timeless tradition of maple sugaring with their annual Maple Sugar Tours & Kick-off Day Celebration at the Outdoor Discovery Campus, located at 120 Muser Drive, Cornwall, NY.  Tours run hourly 11am-3pm on Saturdays & Sundays from February 8* - March 9.  Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned visitor, it's a fun and educational experience for all ages!

Join Nature Educators to learn how to identify and tap sugar maple trees, discover sugaring techniques used by Native Americans, pioneers, & modern-day farmers, and see an evaporator in action! Plus, you can pre-order your delicious locally produced "Tree Juice" maple syrup online, which will be available for pickup at your tour.  Join us for a sweet time!

*On Saturday, February 8, enjoy Sweet Maple Saturday, Maple Sugar Kick off Day  to kick off the exciting first day of maple sugaring! In addition to the guided Maple Sugar Tours, during this special one-day-only event you can also enjoy delicious "Journey Cakes," fireside storytelling, and tap drilling contests! Join in for a great day of fun to mark the start of the maple season!

Tour Dates & Times:

  • Saturdays & Sundays: February 8* & 9, 15 & 16, 22 & 23, March 1 & 2, 8 & 9
  • **Sweet Maple Saturday: Maple Sugar Kickoff Day: Saturday, February 8
  • Scout Tours: 10:00 AM
  • Public Tours: Hourly from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM (see tour details below)

Tour Options:

  • Sugar Bush Tours: 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 2:00 PM
    A one-mile moderate hike through field and forest to the Sugar Bush Shack (terrain and weather permitting). A Maple Lane tour will be given if unable to hike to the Sugar Bush
  • Maple Lane Tours: 12:00 PM & 3:00 PM
    Great for families with young children in strollers and/or individuals with limited mobility. It's a short distance from the front pavilion to our Maple Lane Sugar Shack after a tour of the sugar maple stand.

Pre-registration is strongly suggested to secure your desired time and date! 

Admission:

  • HHNC Members: $12 per person *(Sweet Maple Saturday only: $15 per person)
  • Not-Yet Members: $15 per person *(Sweet Maple Saturday only: $18 per person)
  • Children ages 4 and under: Free
