Bug hunt by Kait FraineCornwall, N.Y. – As the warm sun graces the Hudson Highlands, the Hudson Highlands Nature Center invites you to a season of adventure, discovery, and outdoor education. Whether you’re a curious child, a budding naturalist, or simply someone who loves the great outdoors, the center’s diverse programs and events promise something for everyone. Here’s a glimpse of what awaits you:

*Bug Safari: Saturday, June 1, 10am, Outdoor Discovery Campus:
Catch bugs with a process known as “Sweep Netting.” & get up close to make observations in order to classify them using provided field guides, and sketch & label your favorite catch of the day. *Fairy Houses & Toad Abodes: Sunday, June 9, 10am, Outdoor Discovery Campus
Learn all about our native toads and create your own toad abode to take home to put outside. Then head out on a nature walk & collect items along the trail to design and create a Fairy House inspired by what you learned and observed. *Pre-registration is required at hhnaturecenter.org or (845) 534 -5506* 

International Mud Day at HHNC: Saturday, June 29, 10am-3:45pm, Outdoor Discovery Campus
Welcome Summer with a mud-riffic day of play in Grasshopper Grove! Join children around the globe in celebrating this day of splashing, rolling, squishing, sliding, and appreciating nature and the great outdoors!

*Science & Nature Summer Camp: July 1 - August 19, 9am-3pm. 
A New Theme each Week! A typical day at camp includes: games, team building activities, thematic science & nature lessons, crafts, hikes, outdoor adventures, and more! Spaces are still available for ages 8-12! *Wildlife Play Days : Mondays: July 1 -August 19, 12:30-3:30pm, Wildlife Education Campus
For rising grades K-3: At this exciting drop-off program, children will learn all about the wildlife that call the Hudson Highlands home. During each unique session, a different animal will be highlighted, giving them the opportunity to meet these amazing creatures up-close. *Nature Play Days July: 1-3, 15-18, 29-31 & Aug 1, 9am-1pm Mountain Lake Park (Warwick)
For ages 3 & 4: Little ones will embark on nature hikes, explore the forest, & enjoy nature-based crafts and games. From finding treasures in the woods to making art with natural materials, there’s so much to experience!  This unique drop-off program is specially designed for our smallest naturalists where each day is filled with wonder and discovery! *Pre-registration is required at hhnaturecenter.org or (845) 534 -5506* 

*Summer Knee-High Naturalist: Mondays, July 1 - August 19, Session 1: 9:30am & Session 2: 11:00am, Wildlife Education Campus
For ages 2-4 with an adult: Each class, toddlers and their grown-up learn about nature together by singing songs, reading a book, making a craft, going on a short outdoor adventure, and/or meeting a live animal! *Ladybug Release:  Saturday, July 13, 10am, Outdoor Discovery Campus
Join Nature Educators to learn all about the incredible Ladybug, their awesome adaptations, and how helpful they really are. Then head out to help hand release native ladybugs into the fields and gardens!   *Pre-registration is required at hhnaturecenter.org or (845) 534 -5506* 

*Full Moon Sunset Hike: Monday, August 19, 7:30pm, Outdoor Discovery Campus
Venture out as the sun sets to discover the sights and sounds of nature as the Sturgeon moon rises. Enjoy tales of the Lenape & what the full moon represents on this 1.5 mile hike. Recommended for ages 7+ *Pre-registration is required at hhnaturecenter.org or (845) 534 -5506* 

Wildlife Education Campus (WEC) Throughout the Month – Saturday and Sunday, 12pm to 4pm located at 25 Boulevard, Cornwall-on-Hudson,

Visit with live native animals.  1 p.m. & 2:30 p.m. join a Nature Educator for “Meet the Animal!”  You can also explore the exhibit gallery or go on a hike. Admission: Museum Members Free. Not-yet-Members $5 ages 3 and up. 

Grasshopper Grove: Nature Play Space:  – Saturday and Sundays from 
10am to 4pm 
 at the Outdoor Discovery campus (120 Muser Drive, Cornwall)  Grasshopper Grove is a 'bridge' between a mowed lawn and the wild woods, that encourages children to discover nature play spaces in their own backyards and the wider world. Children can use their imaginations to build in the 'loose parts' area, hop from stump to stump, play in the sand and dirt pile, paint with water and much more!  Admission Members are free. Not-yet-Members $5. 

Hiking Trails: - Open daily from dawn to dusk year-round. Stroller/wheelchair friendly options available. Trail maps can be found at hhnaturecenter.org or posted at both locations.
