New York, N.Y. (August 14, 2024) - Gather in New York City for an unforgettable four-day extravaganza as we celebrate Lafayette's return to American soil after 200 years! This historic event promises an unparalleled journey through time and culture, marking the Bicentennial of Lafayette's Farewell Tour of 1824/25.
From August 15th to 18th, 2024, attendees will be transported back to the era of General Lafayette with immersive experiences, exclusive encounters, and captivating performances. Hosted by the American Friends of Lafayette (AFL), in collaboration with distinguished partners, this historic celebration invites history enthusiasts, cultural aficionados, and curious minds to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime event.
"We've meticulously crafted an event that captures the spirit and significance of Lafayette's historic journey," says Chuck Schwam, Executive Director of the AFL. "It's a unique opportunity to witness history come alive and to honor the enduring bond between the United States and France."

August 15, 2024 (Thursday)
Step off the NYC Ferry from Brookfield Place onto the same shoreline where Lafayette first set foot in America in 1824. Charter buses will shuttle you to the beautiful Sailor’s Snug Harbor Cultural Center for dinner and dancing in the historic Great Hall. Enjoy period entertainment and a reenactment of Lafayette's warm reception by Daniel D. Tompkins.
August 16, 2024 (Friday)
Experience a majestic boat excursion through New York Harbor, accompanied by Lafayette himself and his descendants, Virginie, Heloise, and Adelaide La Fayette, on their inaugural visit to the United States. The day includes a grand reception with military honors, speeches at City Hall, and visits to the Alexander Hamilton Customs House and the Fraunces Tavern Museum. Engage with authors and scholars in a Q&A session and enjoy a special Lafayette exhibit.

Start your day with a guided walking tour of historic lower Manhattan, visiting landmarks such as Trinity Church and St. Paul's Church. Enjoy Living History events at South Street Seaport, a discussion on the history of L'Hermione aboard the tall ship Wavertree, and a delightful lunch at the Park Avenue Armory. The day continues with a brief stroll to L'Alliance Florence Gould Hall Theater, where you'll hear the music of Francis Johnson, Lafayette himself will make a special appearance and enjoy a lively Q&A session with NY Times bestselling author Mike Duncan.

Begin with a tour of the Bartow Pell Mansion and gardens, followed by a visit to St. Paul’s Church. The journey continues to Westchester County, with stops in New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, and Rye. The day concludes with a sunset dinner overlooking Long Island Sound at the Pavilions at Rye Beach.
