1774 For the Good of the King’s Service, May 4-5, 2024

Ticonderoga, N.Y. --Join Fort Ticonderoga as we introduce the 2024 daily visitation season with a lively two-day living history event For the Good of the King’s Service on Saturday and Sunday, May 4 & 5. Fort Ticonderoga kicks off REAL TIME REVOLUTION™ with a full-scale recreation of its British Garrison, 250 years to the day back in 1774. Discover daily life for British soldiers and their families in 1774, with activities including gardening, shoemaking, tailoring, and boatbuilding.

“See British soldiers in action, practicing their marksmanship with muskets and skill with cannons during thrilling weapons demonstrations. Watch soldiers building fortifications and carefully joining building frames,” said Stuart Lilie, Fort Ticonderoga Vice President of Public History. “Explore the important role that families played in peacetime garrison life at this British fort. Discover the story and Ticonderoga’s many other epic chapters through new programs, guided tours, exhibits, gardens, soldiers’ life programs, the Mount Defiance experience, family activities, and more.”

“Even with a captain’s guard, Fort Ticonderoga’s armament and soldiers proclaimed British colonial power in 1774, ensuring its critical chapters in the Revolutionary War,” said Beth L. Hill, Fort Ticonderoga president & CEO. “This living history event captures British military might at Ticonderoga before the Revolution and sets the stage for the 2024 daily visitation at Fort Ticonderoga.”
