Participating organizations will race to complete the most rides across Luna Park’s eight roller coasters, with the winning team receiving a $10,000 donation
Brooklyn, NY (August 10, 2026) – Luna Park in Coney Island, New York City’s ultimate destination for amusement and thrills, will celebrate National Roller Coaster Day with its Charity Coasterthon on Sunday, August 16, 2026. This year’s event takes on added significance as Luna Park celebrates the 99th anniversary of the legendary Coney Island Cyclone and continues the countdown to the iconic coaster’s historic centennial in 2027. Bringing together local charities for two hours of nonstop thrills, the Coasterthon will raise funds and awareness for organizations making a meaningful impact in their communities.
Each organization selected and invited by Luna Park in Coney Island will form a team of three riders and have two hours to ride Luna Park’s eight roller coasters as many times as possible. Beginning at 11:00 AM, riders will race from coaster to coaster, receiving a stamp after every completed ride. When time is called at 1:00 PM, the stamps will be tallied to determine which team completed the most rides.
“The Coasterthon is one of our favorite traditions here at Luna Park, and there couldn’t be a more fitting time to host it than on National Roller Coaster Day,” said Alessandro Zamperla, President and CEO of Central Amusement International. “This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate the Coney Island Cyclone’s 99th anniversary and continue the countdown to its historic centennial. The event brings together everything we love about Luna Park, from thrilling rides, friendly competition and the opportunity to give back. We look forward to cheering on each participating team.”
Luna Park in Coney Island is proud to support all organizations participating in the upcoming Coasterthon and will donate $10,000 to the first-place winner, the second-place team will receive a $5,000 donation, the third-place team will receive a $3,000 donation and each of the remaining participating organizations will receive a $1,000 donation from Luna Park in Coney Island, ensuring every participating organization leaves the Coasterthon with meaningful support for its mission.
