VICTORIA PATERSON, Co-founder & General Director
victoriapaterson.com

Victoria Paterson is a dynamic violinist equally at home with classical, popular, and the healing arts. She has performed on some of the world’s most renowned stages, including Carnegie Hall, Birdland, Madison Square Garden, and television appearances on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Good Morning America, and The Today Show. As the General Director of Mostly Modern Projects, Victoria oversees the hiring of musicians year-round, delivering impactful music programs to communities. Under her leadership, Mostly Modern Projects enriches the lives of seniors, hospital patients, and individuals with Alzheimer’s, while also bringing live music to public spaces across New York State through “rush hour” and “lunchtime” concerts.

Victoria is the founder and driving force behind FAB5, an ensemble launched in 2021 at the Jacob Javits Center. FAB5 performed for more than 10,000 vaccination patients daily, as well as doctors, nurses, staff, and the National Guard. For nearly six months, seven days a week, she led these healing arts programs, demonstrating the transformative power of music in a time of crisis. Her leadership in this initiative garnered national media attention and recognition for the essential role of the arts to our collective humanity.

Victoria’s 20-year career on Broadway included full-time first violin positions in My Fair Lady (Lincoln Center), Sunset Boulevard and West Side Story (The Palace Theatre), and The Addams Family (Lunt-Fontanne Theatre), as well as Off-Broadway productions such as Heathers and The Thing About Men.

She thrives in artistic collaboration, particularly with her husband, award-winning composer Robert Paterson. Together, they celebrate and promote new music through the Mostly Modern Festival in Saratoga Springs, New York, and its European counterpart, Mostly Modern The Netherlands.

A passionate educator, Victoria has taught at the Eastman School of Music’s Institute for Music Leadership and provides career coaching. She mentors countless artists toward successful and standout careers, offering one-on-ones, seminars and residencies at institutions such as The Juilliard School, Cleveland Institute of Music, New York Youth Symphony, Broadway Backstage, Broadway Inside, Chamber Music America, and more.

Victoria studied at the Eastman School of Music and Indiana University. She performs on a modern violin, made by world-renowned luthier Peter Greiner, commissioned and made for her in 2017.

MOSTLY MODERN PROJECTS

Mostly Modern Projects is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2005 that celebrates living composers and modern classical music. Projects include festivals, concerts, recordings, ensembles, and cultural institutes.

In 2018, the Mostly Modern Festival was founded in Saratoga Springs, New York, on the campus of Skidmore College at the Arthur Zankel Music Center. Quickly becoming the “Aspen of the East,” MMF hosts the MMF Institute, an educational experience for 150 instrumentalists, singers, composers, and conductors. Thousands of people head to Saratoga Springs yearly for the unique MMF experience. MMF’s international reputation began in 2021 when MMF The Netherlands was launched. MMF The Netherlands is held every April in historic Holland in Middelburg, Zeeland.
Mostly Modern Concerts began during the pandemic with a kick-off concert in 2020 featuring a socially distanced, masked, outdoor 20-piece orchestra at New York City’s Manhattan Plaza. It was beautifully filmed and featured in WQXR as one of the first live music events after over 8 months of silence.  This concert brought national media attention to the thousands of top tier musicians who stayed in the city, had no work, and shined an overall light on our collective isolation during that time. Today, Mostly Modern Concerts—nearly all of which are free—can be found joyfully performing in public spaces throughout New York City and Upstate New York, ranging from senior care facilities to outdoor public parks to Chelsea Market NYC to the Oculus World Trade Center.
