NYSPHSAA Boys Basketball State Championship Returning to Glens Falls, NY

Extended Championship Tournament Brings in Athletes and Impact to Local Community

Glens Falls, NY – Excitement is building in Glens Falls, New York, as the Cool Insuring Arena gears up to host the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Boys Basketball State Championships for the third consecutive year. The competition extends to a 4-day event, tipping off on Thursday, March 14, and concluding on Sunday, March 17.

The tournament will feature the winning teams from the six NYSPHSAA school classifications, including a new AAA class for high schools with more than 1,090 students. A total of 18 games will be played, offering spectators a plethora of thrilling basketball action with class finals on both Saturday and Sunday.

Glens Falls, a city with a rich history of hosting the tournament for 36 years (1981-2016), is proud to welcome the event once again. Gina Mintzer, Executive Director of the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce & CVB, emphasizes the economic significance of hosting championships in the region. She notes the immense excitement and anticipation among schools, students, fans, and the broader community. Bringing this prestigious event not only highlights outstanding athletic talent but also plays a vital role in boosting local tourism. Mintzer underscores the event's value in fostering a strong community spirit and driving economic growth in the region. According to the Lake George Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau, this event serves as a significant monetary engine, contributing nearly $2 million in estimated economic and employment impact (EEI) to the local community. The economic impact calculator takes into account various expenditures such as accommodations, food and beverage, retail, recreation, transportation, and other spending linked to the tournament in the area.

Glens Falls will conduct the final year of the three-year term for the tournament. Next year, the championships will move to Binghamton, New York.

Tickets are managed by the Cool Insuring Arena and are available on-site at the ticket window ($10) or in advance through SeatGeek.com (additional fees apply). General Admission: $13 (includes fees) and Premium Seating: $25 (includes fees) are available for purchase. Kids 5 and under are free, all others must purchase a ticket.
