Phantoms of the Light PosterPlus Popular and Classical Halloween Songs at 171 Cedar Arts Center

Corning, NY — How often do you have a chance to experience the World Premiere of new music live and in person? On Saturday, October 26th, from 3-4pm, a special FREE family-friendly concert called “Phantoms of the Light" will take place at 171 Cedar Arts featuring new music written by local pianist Russel Anthony and inspired by The Legend of the Gathers and Days of Incandescence.

The music, which has a Halloween vibe, will be performed by Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes’ Augusto Diemecke on Violin and Christine Lowe-Diemecke on Cello, with Ithaca College and Binghamton University faculty member and accomplished pianist Pej Reitz on Piano.

“We are very excited for this unique world premiere performance,” says Dave DeGolyer, Director of Communications for Explore Steuben. “In 2020, we created an illustrated picture book, The Legend of the Gathers, which can be found at the Corning Museum of Glass shops and Card Carrying Books. The story was inspired by the real historic event of Edison hiring Corning Glass Works to make the containers for his incandescent lamps and a mysterious shop boy who blew the first bubble. Russel looked to the picture book story for inspiration and has created beautiful original music which will be part of the free performance.”

Explore Steuben received a grant through the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes to commission the new music from Anthony for The Days of Incandescence. The performance will feature approximately 45-minutes of hauntingly delightful music which will also include several popular Halloween songs from movies, as well as familiar classical pieces which have been curated especially for the concert.

The music is fun, family-friendly, and the timeframe was intentionally kept to 45-60 minutes to appeal to all ages.
