A Retrospective Solo Show Exploring How Spirituality Intertwines with Eastern Inspired Art Practices to Heal Loss and Foster Both Reflection and Compassion
Yonkers, NY (February 5, 2024) – On view from February 3 - March 15 at Yonkers Public Library Riverfront Art Gallery is Beyond the Physical, a retrospective solo show featuring the highly awarded works of artist Roshan Houshmand, an Iranian/American artist who was born and raised in the Philippines.
Beyond The Physical explores how spirituality intertwines with Eastern inspired art practices to heal loss and foster both reflection and compassion. Through the use of oil and acrylic paints, fabric, mixed media, and various other mediums, Houshmand walks us through her process of healing and her experiences traveling around the world, emphasizing that art exists alongside all stages of one's life. Beyond The Physical looks at art as a meditative practice, investigating the tension between expression, experience, process, intention, and repetition. Houshmand examines how the universe’s spiritual energy threads through her own self, allowing the metaphysical and the physical to begin mirroring one another.
Houshmand has exhibited internationally and her travels around the world and subsequent cultural influences are evident in her lush works which marry art and science in a mystical and vibrant dance, reflecting Houshmand’s passion for physics. Riverfront Art Gallery will feature select works on paper, oil paintings and mixed-media that feel like intricately woven rituals that visually engage the viewer reflecting her meditative process.
