Schweinfurth winter art classesAuburn, NY (Jan. 4, 2023) – Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, NY, is accepting registrations for its three adult art classes scheduled for this winter: two clay wheel throwing classes and a watercolor painting class.

The two 8-week clay classes will teach foundational skills for throwing pots on the wheel, including centering, basic throwing techniques, trimming, and glazing.

  • Winter Wheel Throwing with Mike Hughes meets 2 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Feb. 6 through April 2, 2024 (no class Feb. 20)
  • Winter Wheel Throwing with John Smolenski meets 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 8 through April 4, 2024 (no class Feb. 22)

The clay class costs $300 per person for Schweinfurth members and $310 for nonmembers. The fee includes 25 pounds of clay, use of community tools and glazes, and access to the clay studio outside of class. While the class is geared toward beginners, students with introductory skills they wish to expand on are welcome.

Artist Eric Shute will teach a 6-week watercolor class, All Things Landscape, from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays from Feb. 27 to April 2, 2024. Students will focus on painting landscapes from photo references, simplifying elements into a coherent composition with a strong range of values. The class is for beginner and intermediate painters. Cost for the watercolor class is $185 for Schweinfurth members and $195 for nonmembers.
