Schweinfurth Summer CampAuburn, NY (April 18, 2024) – Schweinfurth Art Center has opened registration for its eight half-day sessions of Summer Art Camp, which run in July and August.

Camps are scheduled for morning or afternoon and are organized by age group. Each week has a different topic and instructor. Camps usually fill quickly, so people are encouraged to sign up early on our website, https://schweinfurthartcenter.org/youth-classes/

Summer Art Camp: Arting-In

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. July 15-19, 2024

Campers aged 6 to 10 will explore emotional literacy and personal strengths with collage, mask making, and sculpture with instructor Jessica McGhee. They will be asked to explore their emotions, explore their strengths, and create an abstract self-portrait with clay.

Cost: $135 for Schweinfurth members; $145 for nonmembers

Summer Art Camp: This Is Me

1 to 4 p.m. July 15-19, 2024

Instructor Jessica McGhee will help campers aged 11 to 15 use art and creative investigation to explore their identity and strengths and discover beauty within the imperfect nature of existence. Teens will be encouraged to make mistakes, determine routines that best fit their self-care needs, and define and refine personal opinions and preferences.

Cost: $135 for Schweinfurth members, $145 for nonmembers

Summer Art Camp: Imagine That!

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. July 22-26, 2024

Campers aged 6 to 10 who have a hankering for creating original characters, superheroes, and anything they can imagine are right where they need to be in this camp taught by Gwendolyn Andersen. They will use many artistic mediums to bring their creative ideas to life. Projects include making fabric figures, amulets, and ceramic portraits.

Cost: $135 for Schweinfurth members, $145 for nonmembers

Summer Art Camp: Mixed Media Madness!

1 to 4 p.m. July 22-26, 2024

Campers aged 11 to 15 will work with a different combination of mediums for this camp, taught by Gwendolyn Andersen. Some projects will incorporate ceramics with printmaking, others will combine painting and fabric sculpture. The goal of this camp is to allow campers the freedom to explore their creativity through experimenting with multiple mediums.

Summer Art Camp: Musical Clay

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. July 29 to Aug. 2, 2024

Campers aged 6 to 10 will explore the different ways clay can be used to make sound and instruments in this camp led by Marley Montague. Students will be encouraged to get messy and make some noise as we learn how musical art and physical art combine.

Cost: $200 for Schweinfurth members, $210 for nonmembers

Summer Art Camp: Weaving Wildness

1 to 4 p.m. July 29 to Aug. 2, 2024

Campers aged 6 to 10 will explore the fun of weaving in this session taught by Marley Montague. They will learn different beginner weaving techniques to make bowls, wall hanging sculptures, and more. Join in as we play with color and pattern in string and yarn.

Summer Art Camp: Clay Play Camp

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aug. 5-9, 2024

During this clay intensive camp, students aged 6-10 will immerse themselves in various projects to explore slab, coil, and hand building, led by teaching artists Victoria Savka and Zoey Murphy Houser. Students will learn how to make functional and sculptural clay works that are inspired by their life and the world around them.

Cost: $200 for Schweinfurth members, $210 for nonmembers

Summer Art Camp: Handbuilding and Wheel Throwing Clay Play Week

1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 5-9, 2024

During this clay intensive camp, students aged 11 to 15 will immerse themselves in various projects to explore hand-building and wheel-throwing, led by teaching artists Victoria Savka and Zoey Murphy Houser. Students will learn different surfacing techniques, including sgraffito, Mishima, and painting with multiple glazing.
