Auburn, NY (Jan. 9, 2025) – Celebrate the new year by learning a new skill at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn! There are a few spots remaining in the art center’s adult art wheel throwing and acrylic painting classes, which start in February.
There are two sessions of wheel throwing, both taught by artist Alaina Hall. In this eight-week series, students will learn the foundational skills for throwing pots on the wheel. They will learn centering, basic throwing techniques, trimming, glazing, and more. While this class is geared toward beginners, students who have some introductory clay skills that they wish to expand on are welcome.
One session meets 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays while the second session meets 5:30 to 8 p.m. Both classes run from Feb. 13 to April 10, 2025, with no class on Feb. 20.
The cost for a class is $300 for Schweinfurth members, $310 for nonmembers. The price includes 25 pounds of clay, use of community tools and glazes, and access to the clay studio outside of class time.
The art center is also offering a 6-week acrylic painting class, taught by artist Todd Bachta, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 27 to April 3, 2025. Students will learn the process of applying acrylic in layers to produce depth and richness that translates into representational art.
This class is suitable for both beginners as well as intermediate painters. Cost for the class is $185 for Schweinfurth members and $195 for nonmembers,
