Bringing a Pan-American Seafood Experience to NYC, the new dining destination and coastal bar opens May 9, just in time for waterfront dining season
New York, N.Y. April 28, 2026) — Smorgasburg is shaking things up this spring with the highly anticipated debut of Six Coasts, opening Saturday, May 9 on Governors Island. Set against sweeping views of Lower Manhattan and New York Harbor, the new waterfront destination brings a bold, Pan-American seafood experience to the city, celebrating the vibrant flavors, cultures and culinary traditions that connect the coasts of the Americas in one dynamic, open-air setting.
Located directly on Soissons Landing, Six Coasts marks a major evolution for Smorgasburg as it expands beyond its beloved open-air market model into a full-scale, seasonal restaurant and bar. Designed as a destination for both New Yorkers and visitors, the concept blends chef-driven cuisine, coastal cocktails and an energetic, communal atmosphere.
Six Coasts was born from the idea that waterfront dining should offer more than just a view, it should reflect the culture behind it. The concept brings together the diverse coastal identities of North and South America; from Nova Scotia to Baja to Bahia, each coast shows up in its own way across the menu and the bar. The result is a space that feels both intentional and effortless, where guests can drop in for a mojito and plantain crab croquetas over a game of dominoes or enjoy a special-occasion meal. A natural extension of Smorgasburg, Six Coasts continues the brand’s focus on culture through food, reimagined here as a more focused, fully immersive concept where seafood, music and community shape the experience.
Leading the culinary vision is Chef Scotley Innis, the Jamaican American chef, restaurateur and hospitality force behind some of New York’s most exciting Caribbean dining experiences, including multiple concepts inside IHG’s Hotel Indigo Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Innis has appeared on Hell’s Kitchen and Chopped All Stars, and is known for his modern approach to Caribbean cuisine and bold, globally influenced flavors. Driven by curiosity, Innis brings a dynamic point of view to Six Coasts, where the format allows for ongoing collaboration, pop-ups and a deeper exploration of the diverse coastal cuisines that inspire the menu.
“I’ve always been inspired by the way cultures blend and evolve through food. That sense of connection of people, places and flavors coming together is what defines family to me,” says Innis. “Six Coasts brings that to life, and I’m excited to be part of that journey. We’re going to have a lot of fun with it.”
The menu will feature an evolving selection of dishes with highlights such as Snapper Tiradito with soursop leche de tigre, fig leaf oil, charred scallions and passion fruit; Escovitch Whole Fried Snapper with scotch bonnet pickled onions, peppers, fried festival and tostones; Duck Chicharrón with crispy duck skin, jicama slaw and chili salt; and Blue Crab & Plantain Croquettes served with aiolis and pickled mango. Complementing the food is a beverage program featuring a curated list of coastal cocktails and refreshing drinks such as Coco Melo with coconut-washed vodka, watermelon shrub, lemon and mint; Don’t Call Me Paloma with tequila, Aperol, elderflower, lemon and Angostura bitters; Rio Rush Hour with cachaça, spiced rum, Drambuie, passion fruit and lime; and Backyard Mango with rum, aji amarillo, mango, lime and cilantro; alongside beer, wine and non-alcoholic offerings. In addition to its core culinary offerings, Six Coasts will feature a rotating lineup of guest chefs and collaborators throughout the season, spotlighting diverse culinary voices and traditions.
"Six Coasts is our opportunity to celebrate the full breadth of Pan-American culinary culture, from coast to coast and everything in between,” says Gaston Becherano, owner and CEO of Smorgasburg. “Through an ever-rotating cast of Smorgasburg guest vendors, visiting bartenders, and the incredible cuisine of Chef Scotley, we're bringing the same spirit that has always defined Smorgasburg, championing diverse cuisines, emerging talent and the stories behind the food. It’s what we've always been about, now at a waterfront stage.”
Set along the waterfront with panoramic harbor views, Six Coasts is designed to capture the energy of a seaside escape in the heart of New York City. The open-air layout, paired with a lively yet laid-back atmosphere is sure to make it a go-to destination throughout the spring and summer months. The opening also reflects the continued vision of the Trust for Governors Island to grow the Island as a year-round resource for all New Yorkers. As one of the Island’s newest culinary anchors, Six Coasts adds a new layer to its growing food and beverage landscape.
Six Coasts will officially open to the public on May 9, 2026 on Governors Island. It will be open Thursday from 11AM-10PM; Friday from 11AM-11PM; Saturday from 10AM-11PM; Sunday from 10AM-10PM. For more information, visit www.sixcoasts.com or follow on Instagram at @sixcoasts
