Saratoga Springs, NY – On Sunday, July 6, at 10:30AM, join Debbie Studwell for a stroll around “Skidmore’s First Home.” In 1903, Lucy Skidmore Scribner purchased 82 Circular Street to establish the Young Women’s Industrial Club of Saratoga, which later became Skidmore College. Over time, Skidmore College acquired the grand houses on Union Avenue and surrounding streets to serve as dormitories, classrooms, and offices. New structures were erected when needed such as Moore Hall, also known as the “Pink Palace.” In total, they acquired more than 80 buildings before moving to the current North Broadway Campus. This tour is sponsored by Olde Bryan Inn. The meeting location is at the southeast corner of Spring and Circular streets.
On Sunday, July 13, at 10:30AM, join the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation and Madison C. Squires for the Summer Stroll, “Mail Order Houses of Saratoga.” Explore the homes along East and Pinewood Avenues and meet at the northwest corner of Lake and East Avenues. Long before Amazon Prime, there was the “Kit House” era—when one could flip through a catalog, send in a check, and have an entire house delivered to their lot by rail. Squires will guide you through this fascinating chapter of architectural history, where homes arrived in crates, ready to be assembled like a giant puzzle. This tour is generously sponsored by The Springwater Inn.
The Foundation is grateful for the generous support of the 2025 Summer Series Sponsors: Druthers Brewing Company, and Stewart’s Shops. All Sunday morning tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours are limited to 30 participants. The cost per tour is $15 for SSPF members and $20 for non-members. Foundation members with stroll passes need to contact the Foundation’s office to book their Sunday Summer Stroll before the date they choose.
