A Rare Hudson Valley Appearance from the World-Renowned Spanish Flamenco Company
Saugerties, NY — Internationally acclaimed flamenco company Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca brings its newest work, Agua Fresca, to The Local for a rare and intimate Hudson Valley engagement, following an exhilarating 10-show run at New York City’s iconic Joe’s Pub. The show features up-and-coming flamenco artists and veteran company members alike, including dancers, guitar, and vocals, in a performance directed and choreographed by the critically acclaimed Soledad Barrio and Martín Santangelo.
Known for selling out major stages around the world, the company’s arrival in Saugerties offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience flamenco in an intimate venue.
Formed in 1993 by Martín Santangelo and Bessie award-winning dancer Soledad Barrio, Noche Flamenca has spent decades redefining the boundaries of flamenco while honoring its deep cultural roots. Through virtuosic flamenco dance, music, and song, Agua Fresca (translated as “fresh water”) embodies the mission of the company: “...to create a diverse theatrical body of performance through song, music, and dance that expresses a rigorous, spell-binding aesthetic in the form of flamenco; one that exceeds the highest artistic expectations.”
Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca have been hailed by critics everywhere for their transcendent and deeply emotional performances. Flamenco is one of the world's most complex and mysterious art forms consisting of song, dance, and instrumental music commonly associated with the Andalusian Roma (Gypsies) of southern Spain, where the Roma people are called Gitanos.
The roots of flamenco, though somewhat mysterious, seem to lie in the Roma migration from Rajasthan in northwest India to Spain centuries ago where they encountered the rich cultures of the Sephardic Jews and Arab and Berber Moors eventually creating flamenco.
Tickets are expected to sell quickly. Early booking is strongly encouraged.
