Featuring Star Cellist Sterling Elliott; Danail Rachev, Conducting

White Plains, NY — Fresh off his recent Lincoln Center performance, Sterling Elliott joins the Phil for Robert Schumann’s magically exhilarating Cello Concerto. No longer a “rising” star, the 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant winner has since performed with major orchestras across the country, including NY, Boston, Cleveland, and LA. This concert opens with an achingly beautiful work, Andante Moderato, by mid-century composer Florence Price, the first African-American woman to be widely recognized as a classical composer. Beethoven’s First Symphony pays homage to his forbearers, Haydn and Mozart, but is very distinctly Ludwig’s unique and powerful voice. Leading the orchestra is conductor Danail Rachev, whose interpretive artistry and riveting presence on the podium enthralls concertgoers.

Main stage concerts take place at The Performing Arts Center, Purchase College, 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, New York. All tickets are $45, plus state-mandated fees of $8.50. Half-price tickets for young people ages 6-16. Tickets are sold exclusively through the PAC website.
Chamber concerts at Grace Church in White Plains are free. Tickets for chamber concerts at Crawford Mansion in Rye Brook can be purchased at westchesterphil.org.
About the Westchester Philharmonic
Now entering its 43rdseason, the Westchester Philharmonic is the oldest, continuously running professional symphony orchestra in Westchester County. The Phil’s main stage concert series makes its home at the Purchase Performing Arts Center, with outdoor concerts, chamber concerts, children’s programs, and special events throughout the area, attracting savvy music-lovers from Rockland, Bergen, Fairfield, and Putnam counties, New York City, and beyond.
Renowned artists who have performed with the Phil include Joshua Bell, Julia Bullock, Barbara Cook, Jeremy Denk, Branford Marsalis, Midori, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Kelly O’Hara, Garrick Ohlsson, Itzhak Perlman, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Gil Shaham, Isaac Stern, and André Watts.
Among the many new works commissioned and premiered by the Westchester Philharmonic is Melinda Wagner’s Concerto for Flute, Strings and Percussion, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1999. Recently commissioned works by award-winning composers Christopher Theofanidis, David Ludwig, and Jed Feuer debuted in 2014, 2016, and 2018, respectively.
The orchestra is comprised of the finest professional free-lance musicians from around the greater metropolitan area, who are also members of the New York City Ballet Orchestra, Orchestra St. Luke’s, Orpheus, Mostly Mozart, and perform for many Broadway shows. Members of the Phil hold faculty positions at Juilliard, Mannes, Manhattan School of Music, Purchase Conservatory, Vassar and Bard Colleges.
