Steuben County, NY — They’ll let anyone make a podcast these days. Which explains why the tourism folks at Explore Steuben are trying their hand at this fun method of storytelling with their podcast called What the FLX! While Explore Steuben’s team is serious about promoting tourism, the podcast is intended to be a casual, playful glimpse behind the curtain, so to speak, into things happening in Steuben County and the Finger Lakes region.
Explore Steuben’s mission is to stimulate the tourism economy through authentic storytelling, connecting visitors to hundreds of attractions and experiences. “We get to share the best kept secrets,” says Dave DeGolyer, Explore Steuben’s Director of Communications, “so you don’t miss out. Our intention is simple. We want to show you the wonderful ways you can make the most of life. For the podcasts, we’re having intimate conversations with some of the folks behind the scenes.”
When you are the birthplace for one of the world’s premiere wine regions, the hometown where early American aviation “grew up and went wild,” the epicenter for glass innovations that have revolutionized the world for nearly a century-and-a-half . . . you have some unique and rather remarkable stories to tell.
As the county’s official storyteller, some of the ways Explore Steuben shares those stories include:

Each What the FLX! episode finds the Explore Steuben team out and about visiting with glass artists, winemakers, horsewomen, restoration shop volunteers, even a couple “black sheep.” People you might come across in your travels, but most of the conversations are with folks who exist behind the scenes yet who are making the Finger Lakes go. Some episodes take place in the What the FLX! Studio as the hosts chat about public art, agritourism, local events, and more.
