NYS Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation 100Redefining the Family: The Livingstons and the Institution of Slavery in Early America will be on view at Clermont State Historic Site from June 23, 2024–June 22, 2025.

Germantown, NY – On Sunday, June 23, 2024, Clermont State Historic Site will open its newest exhibition Redefining The Family: The Livingstons and the Institution of Slavery in Early America. Drawn from research completed by Livingston descendant, Pennsylvania State Representative Christopher Rabb, the exhibition explores the life of Rabb’s great-great-great-grandmother Christiana Taylor Livingston Williams Freeman (1812-1909)– who was born to a Black enslaved mother and her enslaver, a White Livingston– and Rabb’s journey validating his family’s oral history about his lineage.

Hudson River Museum - June 2024 ProgramsYonkers, NY (May 30, 2024) — The Hudson River Museum presents two inspired exhibitions opening Friday, June 7 that celebrate new and ongoing relationships with local communities and artists. Neighboring Visions: Westchester Artists Then and Now pairs historical landscape and figurative paintings on loan from the Bronxville Historical Conservancy with contemporary works created by Westchester-based artists. Red Grooms: Drawing "The Bookstore” features never-before-seen preparatory drawings to celebrate the 45th anniversary of this beloved installation, commissioned by the Museum.

Staatsburgh Guided WalksStaatsburg, N.Y.  (5/28/24) — This summer, Staatsburgh State Historic Site is offering free guided landscape walks on the Gilded Age estate’s beautiful grounds overlooking the Hudson River. The program, entitled “What You See… and What You Don’t See,” shows how Staatsburgh’s landscape architect designed a glorious setting that showcased the good life in the Gilded Age, while deliberately using landscape elements to hide the technology and labor that made a turn-of-the-century estate run.

NYS Parks Recreation Historic PreservationBear Mountain, NY (May 24, 2024) – Ten months after the historic storm that led to its closure, the Appalachian Trail at Bear Mountain State Park will reopen for Memorial Day weekend 2024. Additionally, the previously closed sections of the Major Welch and Suffern – Bear Mountain trails will also open to hikers.

We Are NYHudson Link Buses Transport Thousands of Pedestrians and Bicyclists to Popular Shared-Use Path Each Year

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that Hudson Link's free weekend shuttle bus servicing the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge shared-use path will restart service this Saturday, May 25, and continue every weekend through Sunday, October 27. Pedestrians and cyclists will once again be able to use this easy and convenient service to access one of the longest and most scenic shared-use paths in the country. The shuttle service will operate from select locations in Westchester and Rockland counties and transport passengers to the path’s landing sites on either side of the Hudson River.

Sleepy Hollow, NY (May 23, 2024) — The Sleepy Hollow-based education non-profit Historic Hudson Valley is launching Kofi’s Fire, an interactive graphic novel based on the true story of the "New York Conspiracy of 1741" and Kofi, an enslaved man who was accused of being one of the ringleaders of the uprising.

Hudson River SkywalkGuided Hikes Will Feature Thomas Cole National Historic Site, Rip Van Winkle Bridge, and Olana State Historic Site

Event Coincides with National Trails Day and Fifth Anniversary of Hudson River Skywalk Opening

Catskill, N.Y. and Hudson, N.Y. – The New York State Bridge Authority (NYSBA), the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks), The Olana Partnership, and the Thomas Cole National Historic Site have announced an upcoming “Bridges to Parks” hike event. The event on June 1 will feature guided hike options along the Hudson River Skywalk, a scenic walkway that connects the historic homes and studios of the two Hudson River School painters Thomas Cole and Frederic Church via the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. Members of the public are welcome to register online on a first come, first served basis.
