We Are NYAcquisition Preserves Wetlands, Forest and Wildlife Habitat

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the protection of 79 acres to expand Saratoga Spa State Park. The acquisition by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) will preserve wetlands, forest and open space for wildlife and future park uses.

Historic Toys and GamesStaatsburg, N.Y. – On Saturday, May 23, from 11:00a.m. to 3:00p.m., Staatsburgh State Historic Site will host “Historic Toys and Games”, a free, family program outdoors on the portico. Children of all ages and their families are invited to drop by to learn games and play with toys from yesteryear.

Providing a delightful experience of bygone times, Dawn Elliott’s historic toys and games have been a highlight of events at many historic sites and museums. Everyone is invited to experience a variety of lawn games, board games, or simply play with toys.

Orange County MastodonA Talk by Mary Ellen Matise

Newburgh, NY (March 25, 2026) - In 1799 unusually large bones and teeth of an animal resembling an elephant were discovered at a Montgomery, NY farm. Mary Ellen Matise, the Montgomery Town Historian, will tell the story of this discovery of mastodon bones and the efforts to dig them from the ground.  The talk, “The Orange County Mastodon” will be at Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site on Saturday, March 28 at 1pm.
